Forrest Donald Wilson III (known as ForestPunk) was born on September 18th 1990, in Kansas City, Kansas. At barely a year old, Forrest’s family moved to Los Angeles during the time of the Los Angeles riots. This fervent period in the city’s history, combined with his very musical household, ironically set the stage for the equally passionate and imaginative style of Hip Hop that would later arise from ForestPunk. ForestPunk grew up making his own comic books, writing rhymes and acting in school plays; All the while, reading copious amounts. Not only was he influenced by the melting pot that is L.A, but he soaked up all the various styles of music he gravitated towards; from Tupac Shakur, Nas and Ice Cube, to Sade, Prince, Amel Larrieux, Billie Holiday as well as Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Bad Brains and Rage Against The Machine amongst many others. As ForestPunk experienced the various perspectives of life growing up in Los Angeles, his intelligence, curiosity and feeling of being here for a purpose made him mature at an alarming rate. By the time he was 12 years old, ForestPunk knew performing for crowds and spitting his heart out, telling the stories of his life and the world around him was his calling. Since then, Forestpunk has diligently shown the work ethic and talent of someone twice his age; From performing all across the Los Angeles Open Mic/Poetry scene as well as various Indie hip hop venues, high schools, colleges and festivals; from Bananas at Kaos Network (formerly the famous “Project Blowed”) and the World Stage in Leimert Park, to Da Poetry Lounge, Flight School (formerly Natural high), Urban Underground, and the Luis Rodriguez Book Festival just to name a few. ForestPunk not only has a unique and brilliant poetic style of rapping, but is also talented with directing, screen-writing, modeling and acting as well. ForestPunk is also the forerunner of a collective of youth called MutantAcademy!, whose goal is to help forward humanity’s evolution using their creative gifts. To expand his audience, make a name for himself and continue his journey to greatness, ForestPunk has released his own music via the Internet, building a dedicated fan base. It started with an album he made at 17 years old, with frequent collaborator and comrade Nemesyzz, entitled Possessed by Rebel Mischief, and continued with releases like the acoustic hip hop Ep Wake Up Dreamin’ (produced by Hank G) and the Dubstep/Grime Ep entitled The Boy With The Monkey Tattoo, exploring and perfecting his sound with his varied tastes in music. ForestPunk is currently building a bigger name for himself by performing and releasing new material, prepping the release of his latest work, an Ep entitled Sleepers Rise, a collaborative effort with fellow MutantAcademy! Producer/Rapper Renegade. ForestPunk’s creativity knows no bounds; from his sarcastic and punk-spirited social commentary, cartoonish and clever wordplay, and his thought-provoking and emotionally moving tales of just being an ambitious 90s-baby, making a way for himself in the ever changing landscape of new millennia America.
