About Junkyard Scientists

"Junkyard Scientists (10/10) play the funkiest set of the weekend, keeping the party going into the wee hours of Sunday morning at Glastonbury favourite, The Rabbit Hole." - Joe Taylor, VirtualFestivals.com (Glade Festival 2011 review) "...one of the best funk outfits on the scene at the moment... The musicianship and energy of the band keeps everyone dancing and talking about the band for hours to come... 9/10." - Joe Taylor, VirtualFestivals.com (Secret Garden Party 2010 review) “Junkyard Scientists have unearthed the perfect floor-filling equation. Seriously one of the best bands I’ve had on the show.” - Linda Serck, BBC Berkshire "Junkyard Scientists' gigs aren't about the stage, they're about the dancefloor!" - James Milloy, musflash TV "Junkyard Scientists manage to add a whole new history and vitality to funk music, twisting it into a fresh new Hip Hop bitten beast. The tunes are all carefully manipulated, yet delivered with such verve and musical desire that heart and head can't help but agree. Junkyard Scientists - better than sex and nothing like Lenny Kravitz." - Luisa Garcia, Blah Blah Magazine "Although heavily influenced by soul and funk pioneers, Junkyard Scientists are far from a retro-themed band 'recreating' sounds from their predecessors and are as much influenced by contemporary artists, which has a healthy effect on their music. The Junkyard journey will be an enjoyable one to watch grow through their future releases and already staggeringly creative live performances." - Liberation Frequency Magazine **************************************************** Junkyard Scientists are a 7-piece band based in London and Reading, UK. Formed by a varied collective of musicians, the Junkyard sound is a fusion of funk, electro, rock, jazz and pop. The band started out playing at parties before running an independent live music residency called 'That's The Jam' at the Global Cafe in Reading. They launched their debut 7-track EP at Zavvi Music Megastore in Reading with the only in-store gig the store has ever put on. Junkyard secured a publishing deal for the EP from Boosey & Hawkes, and upon its release on iTunes it was featured in the iTunes Store 'What's Hot' section. Since then Junkyard have supported acts such as Ash, EZ Rollers, Portico Quartet, Get Cape.Wear Cape.Fly, the James Taylor Quartet and the Cuban Brothers, and have headlined major London venues such as the Camden Jazz Café. The band are part of top London music collective Raison d'être. Junkyard have performed at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Electric Picnic, Glade, Green Man and Beach Break Live, and have toured with the Chai Wallah festival stage. In 2011 they were the first band to ever record at the Cowshed studio at Glastonbury, a recording studio created on the festival site. The band performed seven shows at Glastonbury 2011. Junkyard have received airplay by Eddie Piller (Acid Jazz Records) on Q Radio, on BBC Radio 6 on both the Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show and on Tom Robinson's show, and have given live performances on BBC Radio Berkshire. The band are currently working on their debut album.
