About Soopar Lox

Formed in early 2011, the group performs original material written both collectively and by individual members. The band members draw on their roots in a diverse range of musical backgrounds to create their own distinctive sound. Akram Al Sharif is equally comfortable playing Arabic melodies on the Oud or wailing blues riffs on the electric guitar.. Hameed Sabry anchors the group on bass with deep, driving basslines. Bassem Wadiea, a recurring musical guest with a smooth voice and command of traditional Arabic singing, adds a unique richness and depth. Negmeddin Shaheen completes the rhythm section on drums and electronics, laying down beats that shake the dance floor. Together they form Soopar Lox, the band that has quickly generated a notable buzz in the Egyptian music scene. They show no signs of stopping, with on going performances in Egypt and a studio album released in 2015. They hope to take their act to the rest of the region, and possibly, beyond. From the sound of it, this is not too far off, and music fans outside of Egypt will undoubtedly be thrilled by their energetic live shows. Even though it is house music…their songs are so much richer than that. Soopar Lox’s music is a fusion of genres: From house to rock to a bit of jazz melded together with oriental influences. EGYPT TODAY The music, simply put, is electronic dance music. But not simply put, is much more difficult to define, as is most good music these days. EGYPT INDEPENDENT A driving, grooving, group that brings together live instruments, electronic music, and Middle Eastern music in a concoction known as Soopar Lox
