About Shaft of Steel
Shaft of Steel are one of the brightest new hopes in melodic hard rock. With a refreshingly unique sound that combines melodic metal and AOR, this London, UK-based act have arrived with a bang.
Formed around the writing partnership of Alex Markham (guitar) and Robert Fenning (vocals), the group’s line-up is completed by Adam Carruthers (guitar), Dominic Swords (bass), Chris Smurthwaite (keyboards) and Michael Levy (drums). Initially starting life as a power metal band, Shaft of Steel have made major stylistic leaps over the last few years, taking influence from a wide range of acts, including Iron Maiden, Work Of Art, Peter Gabriel, Def Leppard, Journey, Dream Theater and FM.
The band’s self-titled debut EP was described by Powerplay Magazine as having ‘musicality and style way above what can reasonably be expected of any band on its debut release’. It picked up plaudits in the music press all around the globe and the band subsequently made a string of live appearances, supporting leading UK melodic rock heavyweights Vega and playing at the prestigious Hard Rock Hell AOR Festival.
Shaft of Steel have signed to AOR Heaven for the release of their new album "Steel Heartbeat". The album features backing vocals on all tracks from respected American producer and musician Dennis Ward (Magnum, Gus G, ex-Pink Cream 69).
In the words of Classic Rock Presents AOR Magazine – ‘The best is doubtless yet to come from Shaft of Steel – they are going to be huge in AOR circles.’
