About Leah Ashton

Leah Ashton is an LA based artist known for her powerfully soulful vocals, her jazz and funk infused piano hooks, and her earnestly clever lyricism. Influenced by the likes of Sara Bareilles, Carole King, Lake Street Dive, Bill Withers, and Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Leah’s debut album, Late Bloomer (released independently on Sept. 9, 2022), takes listeners on a genre bending, pandemic era + election year journey from the perspective of a maturing woman coming into her own in her mid-30s.

As a Midwest native, Leah began releasing music in her early 20s (a self-titled EP from Orangehaus Records in 2007 and an independently released EP, Things Better Left Unsaid, in 2010), but pressed pause on pursing her own original music upon moving to Los Angeles. Instead, Leah spent more than a decade working as a contracted singer in the LA music industry, performing on legendary stages such as The Hollywood Bowl and The Dolby Theater, making TV appearances on shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live and House of Lies, backing artists such as Matoma, Michael Bolton, Andy Grammer (just to name a few) in the studio, and touring venues across California, the East Coast, the Midwest, and more. A return to her artist roots came about during the pandemic when all other work came to a halt, and she decided to dive into writing and preparing to release her first full-length album. "I think everyone has something in their life that makes them feel like a late bloomer, so hopefully when people listen to this album, they feel empowered to embrace the journey that life has taken them on- no matter what the timeline looks like”, says Ashton. “There's no right or wrong time or place to bloom."

Currently, you can find Leah performing music from the album around the Los Angeles area with plans to take the show on the road in the new year. Late Bloomer is available now on vinyl, CD, and all digital platforms.
