About The Newz
The Newz is an eclectic rock band that originated in the late 1970s in the Fargo-Moorhead area and was extremely popular while touring the Midwest during the 1980s. They are best known for their catchy original music involving melodic guitar riffs, infectious vocals, creative bass lines, and solid beats; and being an opening act for Cheap Trick, The Tubes, Joan Jett, the Greg Kihn Band, Def Leppard, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, The Grass Roots, Rare Earth, and Crow. The Newz have released 4 albums with their latest effort being “Life of Crime” in 2020 and achieved radio airplay for their single “Popular Boy” in the 1980s. They were also proudly inducted into the ND Rock & Country Music Hall of Fame in 2012. Recently, three of its core members have begun to play live again for old and new fans alike. The current lineup for the band is:
Jon “Stan” Nyborg – Lead Guitar and Vocals
Gordon Christensen – Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, and Keyboards
Brad Kittelson – Bass Guitar and Vocals
Meryl “Will” Willert – Drums and Percussion
