About Patrick Dopson
Patrick Dopson has been involved in music ministry since the age of seven when he started playing the drums and singing in the church his parents pastored in historic Selma, Alabama. As a young child, Patrick knew that his destiny would be ministering to others through music. He would sit for hours on the front pew of the church and be captivated by the sounds of worship as his mother directed choir rehearsals. His mother, Patricia, greatly influenced and encouraged him to honor God with this musical gift.
At the age of 19, Patrick married his wife, Christina. A few months later, he accepted his first full-time position as worship leader at a large multi-cultural church in Alabama where his ministry was birthed. He has served various ministries over the years including another one of his influences, Pastor, singer / songwriter, Gary Oliver. Currently, Patrick and his wife Christina along with their two sons, Garion and Isaiah, reside in Dallas, Texas where he serves as Pastor of Worship under the leadership of Dr. Tony Evans at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship. They continue to be advocates for adoption and have a story to tell with the adoption of their two boys.
Patrick’s very heart and soul is to glorify God and expand the Kingdom through his music. He began his career in 2006 as a writer and contributor on Fred Hammond’s GRAMMY AWARD®-WINNING album ‘Free To Worship’. The following year Patrick was a featured artist on Hammond’s “25th Anniversary Tour” that made stops in 25 major US cities. He has also recorded or performed alongside other prominent artists such as Israel Houghton, Anthony Evans, John P. Kee, Hezekiah Walker, Donald Lawrence, Donnie McClurkin, Bishop Marvin Winans, Yolanda Adams, David & Tamela Mann and more. He has appeared on the international broadcasts of TBN and DAYSTAR networks, as well as the Allstate® Gospel Superfest.
God has placed a special call for worship on his life to tear down racial, cultural, generational, and denominational barriers. He delivers a powerful uncompromising message to people both in and outside of the church, using his unique flavor of contemporary gospel music. Patrick founded his own publishing and record label, Oilonit Music, in 2003.
His debut album, Open the Heavens, was released in 2012. His first radio single, ‘KEEP ME’, released on his Oilonit Music label, became a Billboard Gospel Top 10 hit and even received a first round Stellar nod for Song of The Year as well as first round DOVE AWARD consideration. ‘KEEP ME’ was one of Sirius XM’s most played songs for the 2013 year. ‘KEEP ME’ garnered a place on Sony / RCA Records WOW GOSPEL 2013 CD. Inspired by the adoption of their son, Garion, his music video ‘KEEP ME’ was also featured on the Sony / RCA Records WOW GOSPEL 2013 DVD.
In addition, his title track, ‘OPEN THE HEAVENS’, was selected by Maranatha as one of the Top 25 Gospel Songs of 2012. In 2014 his single ‘GOD IS’ soared to the top 15 of Billboard Gospel charts. Both ‘KEEP ME’ and ‘GOD IS’ were listed as part of BILLBOARD’S Top Gospel Songs of the Year of 2013 and 2014. In 2021 he released ‘MAKE IT ALRIGHT’ which debuted at #9 on Billboard Sales chart and reached the Top 25 of Billboard Gospel Airplay. It was also featured on the top gospel playlists on both Spotify and Apple Music.
Patrick is also a Stellar Award winner for his design of Tamela Mann’s ‘Best Days’ album featuring her RIAA platinum hit ‘Take Me To The King’. Also, in 2014, Patrick was the hometown recipient of the the City of Montgomery, AL Gospel Praise Awards ‘LIFETIME DREAM AWARD’ for his achievements thus far in gospel music.
In 2015 Patrick overcame a life-altering diagnosis of kidney cancer. That experience propelled him into a deeper and more intimate relationship with Christ. 2018 brought additional tests of his faith as he was faced with the unexpected loss of his greatest influence, his mother. This caused him to dig deeper in his fellowship with God. After this series of tumultuous circumstances, he believed God was, once again, calling him to release music from his place of brokenness to declare with conviction that ‘God Is Able’, produced by himself and GRAMMY AWARD®-WINNING Producer, Kevin Camp.
