About Flat Broke

Formed by frontman Dick Cancer, this 4-piece punk band has been a leading act in the Detroit music scene for over a decade. In the veins of melodic street punk, Flat Broke has embraced the true meaning of the punk rock attitude. Their combination of gritty vocals, driving melodies, and catchy chorus anthems has kept Flat Broke fans singing along (and dancing in the pit) at every show. Flat Broke’s freshman self-titled album was recorded and produced by Noise Pollution Recordings in 2003, and brought the band into the exploding punk rock community of the Motor City. The title track Bruised Knuckles and an Empty Head became a staple song at their live shows, opening nearly every set the band performed. Shortly thereafter, Flat Broke released their sophomore record entitled Zero Down (2005) which included memorable anthems such as The Bottle, Warrant, and Marijuana, establishing the band as “Some of the best beer-soaked punk rock around.” (Hussieskunk.com). In 2007, Flat Broke hit the studio to release their best-selling record to date, Desperate Measures and Long Goodbyes, which was a tribute record to the bands heavy touring schedule, and friends they had made on the road. Songs like Affiliations and Going Nowhere touch on life on the road, and the angst of finding yourself in a perpetual lull, while their most notable track from the record, Legend , was written out of respect for an array of friends lost during the bands lifetime. In 2008, Flat Broke disbanded under mutual agreement to plant roots, start families, and (with deeper meaning) find themselves as individuals. However, their friendship and musicianship never faltered. During the split, Flat Broke came together over and over to perform live for a variety of causes, and continued to write music. In 2013, the idea of producing a new record was brought to light, and the band began recording material for what has become Flat Broke’s fourth full-length record entitled Four Corners, due out May 2014 on Oakland, CA based record label VLE Records. Flat Broke has also announced the addition of two U.S. mini-tours in the Spring and Fall of 2014 in support of the new release. With a new home on VLE Records, Flat Broke has re-ignited the flame that lit the way for four friends from Detroit so many years ago, bringing the dawn of a new era in punk rock fun to light. “Street Punk from the Motor City” ~ Metrotimes “Good ‘Ol Gritty Street Punk” ~ Dyingscene.com "Street Punk from the Motor City" - Metro Times
