About Necrotherion

"To destroy order is to create freedom." The shackles are broken: The boundaries are non-existent: The furious devotion to the black light is, at its core, the foundation upon which Necrotherion is built. One cannot exist without the other. It is the essence of our dark art and the spirit inside us that guides the energy forward. All things have their origin, and thus, this is ours: The cursed entity known as Necrotherion was formed during the winter of 2008 by vocalist/bassist Stellarvore and guitarist Chernobog. The duo came together in order to create cold and raw, yet melodic black metal. After recording some rough demos, the band was placed on hiatus due to various reasons, but fortunately (or unfortunately for some) the band was ressurected in 2011 after having found drummer Vitiatus. Throughout the year the band rehearsed constantly and worked on writing new songs that would eventually make their way onto a demo tape. In the spring of 2012 the band played their first show, on Good Friday, to a crowd that was not nearly ready for what was in store. For this monumental occasion, blood, bones, spikes, and blasphemy overtook the small venue and actually drove several people out in horror. After the success of the first show, the band welcomed the addition of bassist Pain, making the band a solid four-piece killing machine. In June of that year, seasoned black metal veteran Wargoat joined the band on second guitar, making it now possible to have the twin guitar element that the band sought from the beginning. The band then recorded their first demo, entitled "From the Void." The demo garnered positive reviews from all who heard and thus the band set about to conquer areas they had not yet performed in. This culminated with the honor of opening for Morbid Angel, Dark Funeral, and Grave in October in Cleveland, OH. With this ritual, the band gained many new fans. After this, the band began to work on the debut album. The beginning of 2013 would witness the first lineup change as Vitiatus would make his exit from the band at the end of January and Wargoat would take over drumming duties henceforth. Pain also switched to second guitar and new bassist Coprophile was brought into the band in the spring, making their attack more deadly than ever. After more devastating shows throughout the summer, including two with legendary Pittsburgh, PA black/death warriors Sathanas, the band focused entirely on the recording of the first album, entitled "Novus Ordo Seclorum." In November 2013, the band entered Sacred Sound Studio in Martin's Ferry, OH, the band's hometown, to begin the recording. Over a period of 5 weeks, everything was perfected with great care to ensure that the album would be a vicious assault on all who dared listen. After the recording, guitarist Pain left the band for personal reasons, trimming the lineup down to a four-piece once more. In the meantime, "Live Misanthropy", a live recorded show, was released in December 2013. "Novus Ordo Seclorum", Necrotherion's debut album, was released on Supreme Violence Records in Spring 2014 to the eagerly awaiting masses. In May 2015, Chernobog and Coprophile left the band for other commitments, while Waldgrave joined as the new drummer and Wargoat stepped up to guitar. Currently a trio once again, the band is on a temporary hiatus while writing new material. From here on, there is no direction but up! Cold, raw, melodic Black Metal from Northern Appalachia.
