About Rodolphe Lauretta

Ever since he was a teenager, saxophonist and composer Rodolphe Lauretta was interested in various genres of music, from hi-hop to jazz, funk, rock, reggae, african music...
Pursuing his musical journey, the alto saxophonist presents his first album Raw, a jazz rhizome (from the idea of philosopher Edouard Glissant's rhizome identity). A lover from the special texture the chordless saxophone trio can provide, Rodolphe Lauretta surrounded himself with two of the most sought after young french musicians. Upright bass player Damien Varaillon (Magic Malik, Logan Richardson) and drummer Arnaud Dolmen (Jacques Schwarz-Bart, David Lynx, Lisa Simone) to form the Raw Trio. Together they delivered an intimate yet highly energetic album, recorded with the urgency and spontaneity of a live session.
Rodolphe Lauretta has been heard with camerounese drummer Brice Wassy, american trumpeter Jason Palmer, renowned french pianist Alain Jean Marie, Art Ensemble of Chicago's drummer Famoudou Don Moye, rapper Akua Naru and Toni Blackman, Taylor McFerrin...
On this album he penned compositions which draw from the vast heritage of jazz music, without never being conformist.
While displaying multi-layered and intricate grooves and harmonic sequences, the saxophonist's distinctive compositional approach merges succesfully hip-hop, rock, straight-ahead jazz and afro-carribean rythms.
He's performed in the Paris main jazz clubs and major french jazz festivals as a sideman and a leader : Jazz A Vienne, Jazz Sous les Pommiers, New Morning, Duc des Lombards...
Besides Raw Trio, he currently leads The Jazz Side Of Madlib, a band which blends hip-hop and jazz, inspired by the work of the iconic californian MC and producer Madlib.
As a sideman, Rodolphe Lauretta plays with Kelin Kelin Orchestra, an extravagant afro-jazz big band co-led by two important camerounese musicians, saxophonist Jean-Jacques Elangué and master drummer Brice Wassy.
Rodolphe Lauretta just released his acclaimed debut album, 'Raw', on french label Onze Heures Onze, with, in addition to the trio, the presence of guest artists Charlotte Wassy on vocals, Olivier Laisney on trumpet and Theorhetoric on rap.
