About Joy Beth
-----JOY BETH’S BIO A New Jersey native hailing from a family that values music and the arts, Joy was exposed to every musical genre from the time she hit the planet. Pop, Rock, Gospel, Classical, R & B and Country music regularly filled her home. Immediately captivated and inspired, Joy hummed tunes and sang lyrics as she explored the world around her. Music…made the world friendlier. Lyrical. Brighter. Magical. Whitney Houston was an early favorite and influence. Her parents, taking note of her natural talent and enthusiasm for music and acting, enrolled 3 year-old Joy in vocal and dance classes. Joy was an all around quick study, and although a toddler is not an adult when it comes to fully understanding how to interpret a song, phrasing and more, Joy was a sponge and absorbed everything. She learned ballet and tap. As she blossomed, she drew the attention of a film and television management company who signed her as a child-client. The company's name? Divine Little Angels. One of over 50 toddlers auditioning for the 1991 NYU student film Inside Out, 3 year-old Joy won the role which included one line of dialogue. Vocal and dance training would continue over the next decade, well into her teens. At age five, she performed at Father Demos Square, a New York City park. She loved country music and sang Patti Loveless' I'm That Kind of Girl and Lee Ann Rhimes' How Can I Live Without You. Passers-by clapped, many commenting on her emotional sensitivity. Her catalog broadened to include a brief medley of songs from Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Mariah Carey, America, Pink Floyd and Elton John. A Jersey girl singing Hotel California. Seven was an important age, an early turning point. Joy became a contestant in the American Princess Pageant. Representing New Jersey, she sang Houston's The Greatest Love of All, and went on to compete in Orlando, Florida, at the national level. Advancing further to the international level, she made the Top Five. Tons of Broadway auditions followed and she sang The Greatest Love of All and Part of Your World from the Little Mermaid. Again, folks commented on her emotional sensitivity. This same year she became a cast member of the public access children's show, Kids Party Box. Over the next two years, she appeared in several community-based drama-musicals – A Christmas Tale and Jesus Loves You – giving her the opportunity to perform solos and act. She appeared in the 1999 independent film Mute Love, directed by Patrice Mallard where she played film and television actress Nicole Ari-Parker's character, Mavis, as an adolescent. With parents who were street ministers, songs by contemporary Christian artists had a major impact on her. At school talent shows and in churches throughout the tri-State region, she sang gospel songs by artists such as Amy Grant, Yolanda Adams and Mary- Mary. Joy remained loyal to all genres of music. Now composing during the middle school years, she really embraced singer/songwriters Bob Marley, Lauren Hill, Roberta Flack, Amy Winehouse, and Alicia Keys. Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguillera, John Legend and Pink have become favorites in the past five years. More recent Bruno Mars. At 12, Joy began recording her own Pop and R & B compositions. Additionally, she collaborated on gospel songs at recording studios in New York and New Jersey. She began working with producers and all that she had learned years before started to come together. Her music reflects her commitment to voicing emotions while uplifting and empowering young girls and young ladies. Interpreting a song…musicianship…phrasing…songwriting…while finding her own voice and style…all started to take shape. Understanding how a song is put together, its components, beats and hooks are now second nature. Joy Beth: Singer, songwriter
