About Scotty Hills
Scotty got his start in Saskatoon at age four singing radio jingles, came of age with Nirvana,
then got hit hard with post war Chicago Blues. For a decade he toured as a drummer/singer
with various American blues bands, backing up blues royalty like Hubert Sumlin' and Jody
Williams, both of which were pivotal figures in the early Chess Records dynasty.
He spend five years as drummer and vocalist with The Perpetrators, collecting a Juno award
nomination and WCMA win for his role as co-writer and producer. The band opened for blues
legends like Chuck Berry, Taj Mahal, Los Lobos and R.L. Burnside and more.
He began releasing music for a solo project, coming from behind the kit to write and perform
under his own name. In 2014 Scotty signed to Ole/RocNation and traveled to L.A., writing and
creating demos for pop Icon Rihanna, collaborating with producers like Deputy (Rihanna),
Jerrod Bettis (Adele, One Republic) and others. In 2022 he was shortlisted for a Polaris prize,
for his songwriting on funk group Sargent and Comrade’s album “Magic Radio”.
“Names like Same Cooke, Ron Sexsmith, Stevie Wonder, or even Fiest may come to mind
occasionally, but Scotty remains effortlessly original throughout” - CKUA Radio
