About The Dark Blue Orchestra
Son of a musical genius and a ballet dancer, exchanged at birth for the son of a mafia capo, Don DiMartino forms The Dark Blue Orchestra with a rather ambitious goal in mind: to use music for criminal rehabilitation purposes.
Composed of musicians sharing the same humanistic goals, The Dark Blue Orchestra has been skimming the underworld cabarets with great acclaim since 2011. This is their extraordinary story they tell on stage during an hour of uncompromising show, laced with classical intermezzi and video art.
In it’s current form, the band is composed of:
Donnie DiMartino, megalomaniac Barytone, eccentric author and composer of the songs.
Salossin Freeman, Guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, specializes in Musique Concrête, film scoring and free jazz. He co-composes the Dark Blue repertoire.
Jeremy Laine, drums. With several years touring with a power trio called «The Perfect Idiots», specialist in medieval drumming, and graduate of the Didier Lockwood Jazz school, Jeremy brings raw power to the rather elaborate melodic structure of the Dark Blue Orchestra’s live sets.
Raphael Theodore de Bancou, keys. From a noble romanian family, Raphael Theodore is a distinct classical pianist and musical arranger/scorer for theater. His hobbyhorse is to put sound triggers anywhere he can, so his suit and even his shoes can launch musical samples and image clips.
"The Birth of The Dark Blue Orchestra" is the first installment in a semi-autobiographic musical about the troubled youth of Donnie DiMartino, hyper-sensitive son of an underworld capo.
The show is a cinematic cabaret rock spectacle that immerses the public in the universe of this tortured young man and takes us through his childhood, finding love and the genesis of The Dark Blue Orchestra, a musical outfit designed to rehabilitate criminals through tailor-made requiems.
