Solid return for Simple Minds... great set list and production. Impressive turn-out compared to MTelus show a few years back.
Modern English was excellent support, but SoftCell were useless. Simple Minds would do well to drop them from the tour. All they did was run a program on their MacBook (which crashed at least twice). A waste of time, really.

The last and first time I saw Simple Minds was in 1983 and so I very excited to be able to once again see one of my favorite bands from the 80s. Right from the opening pulsing bass line - leading to the exploding drums and slashing guitar intro of 'Waterfront' - the same song they opened with 42 years ago - I knew I was going to have the best Deja Vu experience ever. Jim Kerr & Charlie Burchill still had it all going on and Jim was charming as ever. The rest of the band were amazing with power house drummer Cherisse Osei being a force of nature all on her own. Also to my amazement as an old fan was how many songs they covered from earliest albums - this was a very pleasant surprise. The only song I missed hearing and really wished they had performed was 'Up on the Catwalk'. But that was just one my own person favorites - and considering the fact that they breathed new life into other older songs like 'This Fear of Gods' and 'Theme for Great Cities' there was literally nothing I could argue with in terms of songs selection they made for this tour. Now I just have to pray I don't have to wait another 42 years to see them again!!

Simple Minds huge catalog from the experimental early years through now shows the band’s range and strength. They have lost nothing in terms of energy, skill, and talent. Jim’s voice was strong as ever. Though only Jim and Charlie remain from the original lineup, the touring members were incredible. Their touring drummer (Chrissie) was just incredible! They put on such an amazing show with minor additive effects. No lasers, massive stage sets, dancers, etc. it’s all about the music. Though I’m a long time fan this is only the third time I have seen them. The last time was in 2013 and they have not slowed down one bit.
If for any reason you are “on the fence” about going, go. You’ll be sad you missed out!

About Simple Minds
Formed in 1977 by Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, Simple Minds (hailing from Glasgow, Scotland) were previously known as Johnny And The Self Abusers. Under that name they released one single (Saints And Sinners) and played various live shows between February and November 1977 before they changed their name to Simple Minds.
Simple Minds initially signed to Arista who recorded and released their first three albums. The musical changes Simple Minds went through in these first three albums shows how diverse their song range is. Tracks to compare would be Chelsea Girl, their first single with hints of Johnny And The Self Abusers, and I Travel an almost disco sounding track.
Virgin Records saw the potential in the band and in 1981 signed them up. The first release on Virgin was a double album, but released as two single albums - Sons and Fascination and Sister Feelings Call.
They first found noteable success with New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84), which is still regarded as their best album by some fans.
They have had great commercial success in Europe and across the world since then (in the 80's and early 90's they sold 30 million albums worldwide). In the United States, however, they are known primarily for Don't You (Forget About Me) which was used in the soundtrack to the film the breakfast club and went to number one. Ironically it is one of few songs recorded by the band that they didn't write themselves.
In 1985 Once Upon a Time yielded a string of worldwide hit singles, (Alive and Kicking, Sanctify Yourself and Ghostdancing) leading to playing bigger arenas and supporting Amnesty International with donations from record sales.
Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill remain the core of the band to this day, with Andy Gillespie (keyboards), Mel Gaynor (drums) and Eddie Duffy (bass) supporting. Other members of the band: Michael Mac Neil (keyboards), Derek Forbes (Bass) and John Giblin (Bass).
They have maintained a strong fan base world-wide and their album Black and White 050505 received critical acclaim on its release in September 2005, although it is unlikely to secure a release in the United States.
Jim Kerr was married to Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders in 1984 (divorced 1992). They have one child, Yasmin Paris Kerr (1985). He was subsequently married to actress Patsy Kensit in 1992 (divorced, 1996) with whom he had a son, James Kerr (born, 1993).
