About Napoleon Gold
Bewitching arrangements, warm low-pitched vocal samples, and rousing percussions are Napoleon Gold’s favorite tools when producing his electronic tracks.
Growing up, music was one of the only way he could escape from the blandness of a city where nothing much happened. Napoleon Gold taught himself piano on his sister's upright piano at age 13, and quickly started learning guitar and drums, to be able to express himself with different instruments.
Shaped by Punk and Hardcore, the French producer moved to Brussels (Belgium) at 17, where he fell in love with electronic music after discovering artists like Bonobo, Holy Other, Clams Casino or Flying Lotus.
Suffering from intense sleeplessness a couple of months after moving to his new home, he became obsessed with the orange glow of the city lights at night and the soft golden colors of the sun during its rise. He gave the name 'Napoleon Gold' to the mystical color born from the encounter of night and dawn. Representing both the failure to sleep and a new beginning, this daily sight inspired him to start composing musical textures and moods. Inspired by artists like Mura Masa, James Blake, Bonobo, or Gorillaz, his style evolved over the years, going from ambient electronic to more uptempo and stirring music.
Since his debut into the world of electronic music, Napoleon Gold has worked on remixes and collaborations with artists such as Cherokee, Sun Glitters, Monsoon Siren, as well as visual artists David Brognon and Stéphanie Rollin, and is currently composing his first feature film score.
Joined on stage by a drummer, Napoleon Gold gains in intensity and character when experienced live: the mix between electronic sounds, keyboards, percussions, and subtle improvisations make each show a unique experience. He has played over one hundred performances around the world (Europe, India, China, South Korea, Caribbean, ...) , opening for acts such as London Grammar, Glass Animals, SOHN, Son Lux, and many more.
