Holly Macve

Macve was born in Western Ireland, when she was 6 months old her mother fled from an abusive relationship and took her and her sister to settle in West Yorkshire where she grew up cultivating a love of music and film. In her twenties, she spent much of her time between the south coast of England and the beach-lined shores of America’s west coast, refining her transportive sound as a multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter.

In 2024, Holly Macve released her third album Wonderland, a project that allowed her to take full control of her creative output for the very first time. The creation of Wonderland followed an unprecedented period of profound transformation for Holly Macve. A major turning point came when Holly was driving down Los Angeles’ famous Los Angeles’ Coldwater Canyon off Mulholland Drive and was involved in an accident that found her rental car flipped on its side. Macve left the accident remarkably unharmed, but with an altered mindset, she expands, “When you go through experiences like that, it gives you a whole new perspective on life”. Alongside this watershed event, Holly also found herself at the end of a long term relationship, so feeling completely uncalibrated, she took herself to the Golden State with hopes of rediscovering who she was when alone. What came of that time was a renewed sense of purpose and a new hopeful outlook - all of which can be heard and felt across Wonderland. Releasing the record via her own label – Loving Memory Records – Wonderland feels especially close to Holly’s newfound peace, she elaborated, “I think that ‘Wonderland’ is meant to represent the next chapter in my life, which is me being unashamedly myself and just appreciating being alive”.

Wonderland and its related predecessor EP Time is Forever earned praise from the likes of Dazed, Rolling Stone UK, Notion, The Line of Best Fit, Our Culture, Dork and DIY.
