Monophona

Monophona are Claudine (vocals, guitars, keys) Jorsch (drums) Chook (production) When Claudine and Chook first started discussing a common musical project in the winter of 2010, they came from completely different worlds. He had discovered DJ-ing as a teenager and soon made a name for himself not only as a turntable artist, but also as a drum&bass producer; she was a singer-songwriter touring with a folk-rock band and had an admiration for the likes of Tom Waits, Van Morrison and Joni Mitchell. She loves acoustic instruments, the touch of fingers on strings or wood; he can spend hours in the studio tweaking a sound until it is just the one he’s been looking for, creating atmosphere, building up a tune that speaks for itself and is in no need of words. Neither one of them knew anything about the other one's musical roots and influences. Yet, after having built successful careers in their respective fields, they were eager to take on a new musical challenge and search for common ground. The result of this collaboration is Monophona, a blend of two extremes, electronic and intimate, melodic and innovative. On stage, the line-up is completed by percussionist Jorsch, equally at home in both musical worlds. He adds detail and dynamics to their live-set. Since their first gig in the summer of 2011, they have managed to establish themselves among the local scene, earning the chance to open for acts such as Rodrigo y Gabriela, Elektro Guzzi and Nostalgia77. They were even able to step outside the borders of their native Luxembourg, being chosen as their country's representatives for the Printemps de Bourges contest and for the Midem in Cannes. Additionally, they have played the Glimps Festival in Gent and opened for An Pierlé at the Aralunaires Festival (Arlon). www.monophona.com
