About Sophie B. Hawkins

Sophie B. Hawkins
SOPHIE B. HAWKINS is a Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter born and raised in New York, NY. Her platinum debut album, TONGUES AND TAILS, featured the indelible Top 10 single “Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover,” followed by her second platinum release, WHALER, which produced multiple hits, including “As I Lay Me Down,” which became the longest-running single in Billboard Adult Contemporary chart history. She famously challenged her record label for creative control over “Lose Your Way,” the lead single from her third album, TIMBRE. After winning the dispute, she became an independent artist, going on to release five additional albums on her own imprint, Broken Plate Music.
Over the past two decades, Sophie has earned industry awards, performed sold-out concerts, and been the subject of the acclaimed documentary THE CREAM WILL RISE. She also received critical praise for her portrayal of Janis Joplin in the nationally touring play ROOM 105. Her music continues to permeate popular culture – from memorable guest performances on DAWSON'S CREEK and COMMUNITY to recent needle drops on STRANGER THINGS, OZARK, YOUR FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS and FX’s LOVE STORY.
A dynamic creative force known for her spellbinding live shows, Sophie celebrated the 30th anniversary of WHALER in 2025 with an acoustic tour across North America and the UK, alongside the release of WHALER RE-EMERGING, her ninth album.
Currently, she is developing BIRDS OF NEW YORK, an original musical for which she has written the book, music and lyrics. She is also writing an autobiographical memoir and preparing music for her tenth album.
Much more than a singer, Sophie writes all of her own music, is a multi-instrumentalist, and has been fully involved in every aspect of the production of her records. An enduring artist with a fierce commitment to her creative integrity, she is also a passionate activist, who is devoted to LGBTQ+ advocacy, animal rights and environmental causes, as well as the support and promotion of her fellow female musicians.

The Triple Door, a welcoming and inviting atmosphere, created an intimate setting perfect for a Sophie B. Hawkin’s concert. With a guitarist and newly recruited drummer, Andre, from her performance in Spokane the day before, Sophie performed a high-energy, fast-paced show, an hour and half of Whaler and signature classics, newer songs from Free Myself, covers of Joan Baez “Diamonds and Rust” and Dylan’s “I Want You” with a touching tribute to Dolores O’Riordan and newly learned version of “Linger.” Wonderful audience participation and artist interaction, including candid revelations about her life and work. Sophie B. Hawkins continues to inspire me in my life through her music and words.

The show was better than I was expecting, I can't wait till I Sophie comes back to Glasgow.

Fantastic concert, Sophie was amazing and her support band was really great too. Highly recommended, if you only get to one concert this year, make it this one!
