About AfroJazziacs
The Afrojazziacs spawned from a collective of musicians representing a great variety of musical styles including contemporary and traditional Afro-Cuban, Jazz, Funk, Reggae, Cumbia, Salsa, Afro-beat, and much more. Its members are young professional musicians who are looking to bring a fresh perspective to the fusion of world music. The Afrojazziacs are best described as an Afro-Latin-Jazz-Punk-Funk band whose full musical experience is achieved through the incorporation of Latin-American ethnic instruments such as the Puerto Rican quatro, Afro-Cuban trés and batá drums among other various elements. Each member of the collective brings their own musical expertise and cultural music influence fusing popular and folkloric Latin styles with Funk, Jazz, and many other World Music genres. Their attitude, musical stylings, and the improvisational nature of their live performances make for unique and powerful shows full of remarkable positive energy. The Afrojazziacs have comfortably made their homes in the greater San Diego/Los Angeles area playing in many major festivals and prime venues continually providing original music that defies standard classification; swanky, eclectic, incendiary and with heavy dance vibes. It is an amalgamation of all types of music and traditions that catches the hearts and ears of The Afrojazziacs, giving way to a style of music all their own. It is indeed the music of the world they are playing in. This young group of musicians have committed their life to refining, and expanding their musical craft through private study even receiving Bachelor's degrees in Jazz Studies and Ethnomusicology. You may also catch the Afrojazziacs members collaborating/working with San Diego-based musical groups such as the B*Side Players, Gilbert Castellanos, Steph Johnson Trio, In Motion Collective, Sure Fire Soul Ensemble and Johnny Osborne among others. The Afrojazziacs continue to explore new musical mediums and honoring them in their traditional state while adding a contemporary twist. "This band has a unique and amazing sound!!! A combination of really talented young musicians.... Latin, Jazz, African, you'll get it all... Please don't miss this band." - Chris Springer - Radio Host The Latin Grooves Show KSDS Jazz 88.3FM
