About byron
byron are one of the defining bands of Romania’s rich alternative music scene, having been one of its driving forces since their inception in 2006. With eight studio albums and countless live shows both Romania and abroad, from clubs to major festival appearances, they have built one of the largest cult followings in their native country and continue to play a major role in its diverse, yet largely unexplored musical tapestry.
Moving comfortably across a myriad of styles with progressive overtones, the brainchild of lead singer and principal songwriter Dan Byron is driven by a desire to push its own boundaries and blur the lines between genres, from raw, passionate rock to meticulously orchestrated pieces featuring unusual instrumentation, all rounded up by clever and profound lyrical poetry that captivates listeners of all ages.
Their latest album, “Efemeride”, is a collection of 10 carefully crafted and masterfully produced new songs that sees the band reaching new heights in its own journey of musical exploration, from the heavy one-two punch attack of “Monstrul de sub pat” to the catchy, funky grooves of “Cadou”, the dreamy electronic experimentation of “Memento” or the delicate sonic landscapes of “Oricât ai vrea să fii mai mult”, closing with the epic journey of the mind that is “În infern”.
“Efemeride” is the latest milestone in a career that has also seen the band writing the soundtrack for a HBO series, playing a salt mine in Transylvania or as far afield as India, and being accompanied by the likes of a symphony orchestra, a choir or a marching military band.
The unmistakably unique music of byron is one of the key elements in understanding not just Romania’s alternative scene as a whole, but also why they have built a tremendously loyal following over the past two decades, while continuing to attract new generations of fans.
