About Grand Electric
Grand Electric was started by guitar players Ahmed Abdallah, David Hansford, and bassist Lee Griffin, with the ambitious charter, "Let's start a band with two guitars." Lacking a drummer, Ahmed turned to boyhood friend Dan Gillespie, who "wasn't trying to be in a band," but was persuaded to sit in on a session. It didn’t take long for Dan to discover that "these guys aren't terrible" and he quickly accepted the offer to come on as full time drummer. After a period of going through singers that could only be considered Spinal Tap’esc, Grand Electric enjoyed a period of success with A.T. Callan at the vocal helm. The key highlights of the Callan years include the release of the Faking It EP & shows at some of NYC’s most prestigious venues including, but not limited to, Piano's, Highline Ballroom, Gramercy Theatre. The final outing of Grand Electric with this line up was opening for Def Leppard & KISS at Jones Beach Theatre in the summer of 2014, where Joe Elliott was overheard telling Paul Stanley that these guys are "surprisingly good." "After a short hiatus, Grand Electric are back on track and still refusing to "turn down that guitar, will ya?" With the welcome addition of new front lady Kara Ali, who has promised to unleash her inner Pat Benatar all over Grand Electric’s raw musicianship. When asked why she decided to join forces with guys in Grand Electric, Kara’s only comment was “It doesn’t get any more rock and roll than Grand Electric.” Surprisingly Rather Good ....
