About Jake Cassman
Jake Cassman's music echoes the raw energy of indie rock, the artful melodicism of power pop, and the thoughtful and vulnerable songwriting of the best Americana. And since he began releasing music in 2013, Cassman has embarked on a musical odyssey that has taken him to intimate venues and major stages around the country, drawing in audiences with electric, eclectic performances, and songs that make the intimate seem epic and the political feel personal. Equal parts California dreams and East Coast grit, Cassman returned to his home state after seven years in Boston, and settled in Los Angeles in 2018. This year will see the release of his debut LP, Idling High -- a staggeringly ambitious and disarmingly honest record that showcases Cassman's wry humor, acute observations, and boundless compassion.
Jake’s artistic journey has taken him around the world and back again, with jobs in every corner of the music industry and performances at everything from celebrity galas to improv comedy shows. He’s also participated in grassroots campaigns for automatic voter registration and universal healthcare, and taught songwriting classes to young people trying to find their voices. Despite his busy schedule, Jake still saves time for pickup basketball, urban and rural hiking, and trying new beers based solely on their names.
In 2016, Drunken Logic donated their song and video “What A Beautiful Morning!” to the 30 Days, 30 Songs project for a Trump-free America, alongside artists like Death Cab for Cutie, R.E.M. and more. Two years later, Jake returned to his home state of California to release DL’s third record, The Loudness Wars, a concept album about the search for sanity and empathy in a fractured America. And this year, DL is poised to release An Awful Lot of Nothing, a raucous, rollicking EP that explores the darker, toxic side of masculinity. Always honest, surprisingly funny, and never boring, Drunken Logic's music is a powder keg of rock sparked by the American folk tradition — an inspiring and challenging sound defined by the times in which we live.
