About The Black Lullaby
It all started in Music Street in 2007, where plenty of bands do - in somebody’s garage, experimenting with their music every chance they got. The Black Lullaby evoke a sense of confidence in the listener. From the opening chords of their recent self-titled EP you can feel the band is self-assured, confident and focused on raising tough questions through dark-edged yet strangely uplifting music. ARIA award nominated producer Lachlan Mitchell (The Jezabels, The Whitlams) has helped create soundscapes and a snug fitting bed for Ange Saul’s sweetly haunting vocals to reign over. Blending acoustic instruments with gritty guitars, a solid rhythm section, and ethereal harmonies, this accomplished independent release takes the element of Earth to follow on from the Water theme that imbued their 2009 debut EP “Future Target”. What ties the songs together on the new EP? Ange explains. “The line that connects the new songs is change. I used to rely so much on what I heard or read as fact, and absorbed it as my own ideals. Now, in our hyper-connected world, I question everything.” The Black Lullaby’s sophomore release delivers on musicianship, melodic sensibility and production values, and embodies a distinctly Australian grassroots indie rock sound, while retaining the band's own unique voice. The Black Lullaby had an amazing 2012, with headline shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Byron. 2013 has included a run of east coast shows including supports with British India and The Trouble with Templeton. The Black Lullaby premiered their new single "Fell In Love With A Rockstar" at the inaugural Byron Bay Falls Festival over new years 2013/14 and will also be showcasing at Canadian Music Week 2014. Recent press includes: The Black Lullaby offers up a perfect blend of indie meets alt/mainstream rock and roll. You will be drawn in by the classic guitar tones…but you will stay for the great vocals and huge choruses! Rob Daily - daily unsigned Full of soaring soundscapes and haunting vocals, The Black Lullaby definitely delivers on quality sound and music. Sose Carter - theaureview Each track is a fresh reminder of life’s inevitable hurdles, combined with a unique rock scene and lively listening.
