About Social Hysteria
Social Hysteria is a project that is a product of three other bands, Flower Mind, Cold September and Daysleeper. Flower Mind (1995 - 2001) had some success in Europe. Played several major festivals in Portugal with bands and artists such as Bryan Adams (Canada), 10,000 Maniacs (USA), Spin Doctors (USA), Jene Loves Jezebel (UK), Mao Morta (Portugal), SIlence 4 (Portugal). They were voted one of the top 10 new rock bands in Portugal in 2000 by the respected music magazine PROMUSICA. The band dismembers due to one of the band members returning to University. Cold September starts in 2002 with some of the remaining elements from Flower Mind. George now leaves the drum kit and is now on guitar and vocals, being now the only songwriter. The band had immediate success with their self titled EP, played at the Termometro Unplugged Festival in Oporto (Portugal) and appeared on the TV channel SIC RADICAL with a live performance and an interview. Cold September dismember, due to George returning to University. George and Alex move back to Canada. George records several demos in his basement studio on his own and decides its time to put a band together, calls experienced drummer Cliff, Alex joins on the bass and Daysleeper was formed. They have been playing shows in the Toronto and Hamilton area and in Portugal. After several drummers (no Spinal Tap influences) they get Malcolm Obery to sit behind the kit, and the name is changed to Social Hysteria, until someone decides to sue for legal rights over that name.
