About Nick Cooper

Biography: The human voice has no better mentor, the spirit no better friend. For many years, Nick has continually reinforced his claim to those titles, his grip growing ever firmer through his unparalleled hunger for beauty and his lack of fear in chasing it. As a respected artist, impassioned vocal coach, and heartfelt motivator, not only has Nick secured his legacy though inspiring those around him, but his passion has also become his life’s work. Nick realized his love of performing early on, as a child in Washington D.C. It was then and there that he started to lay the groundwork for the spectacular career he’s enjoyed so far. Performing professionally by age thirteen, Nick captured his first national television audience as part of NBC’s Drug Free Zones campaign. His introduction to the world soon followed, as he traveled the globe showcasing his skills on stilts and unicycles as part of Howard University’s “Playmakers Repertory Company”. Months later, Nick made the first of many annual appearances at the Kennedy Center, where he performed for none other than the President of the United States. Next, it was off to New York where he landed his first Broadway gig at age sixteen. His train was just picking up steam. Fueled by his fondness for song, Nick soon set his sights on the music industry. The response was phenomenal, establishing him as a constant in the music mainstream. From landing works as back-up vocalist to superstar R&B crooners Maxwell and Kenny Lattimore, to helping capture the hearts of millions though his work on the Lion KingSoundtrack, Nick quickly became an undeniable shining star behind the stars. His light burned just as bright as opening act for legendary divaChaka Khan and soulful songbird Oleta Adams. More boosts came from live performances during the Miss America pageant, a television tour with American Idol Kelly Clarkson, and providing background vocals for up-and-comer Ruben Studdard’s live performance of “Flying Without Wings” during 2003’s American Idol finale. The silver screen has also provided a splash, as Nick arranged, sang, and performed in choir scenes for Universal’s Deliver Us From Eva and Sony Pictures’ Two Can Play That Game. As a vocal coach Nick’s work has been just as thrilling, with both established and up and coming artists entrusting him with their hopes and dreams. J Records Mario, Jive Recording artists Ciara & Chanté Moore, and Columbia Recording artist Beyonce (arrangements for the 2005 Oscars), head up an ever-growing list of clientele. Others enlisting Nick’s guidance, range from dancer/producer Wade Robson to singer/actressJada Pinkett-Smith and World Boxing Champion Laila Ali. And that’s just here at home. Internationally, Nick’s impact has been virtually incalculable. Over the last seven years, Nick’s voice has become the backbone of rhythm-and-blues on the Chinese music scene. As the first American to ever record in Beijing, Nick revolutionized the sound of Chinese rhythm-and-blues, changing the direction in which it was once surged. Now recording with the country’s top acts, such as superstar producer Johnny Chen and China’s Artist of the year Jeff Kung, Nick is considered to be the heart and soul through which their R&B flows. So much so, that his style and methods are now under the microscope, as he has designed curriculum for one of Shanghai’s most prestigious Arts Academies. In Korea, Nick’s voice has become a familiar sound to countless families and fun-seekers as well. Take a stroll through Disney inspired Everland and the reason is clear. Nick took his love for life and laughter and channeled it into song as one of four people contracted to sing and arrange all of the music played throughout the amusement park.
