About Terry Emm

Young Bedfordshire singer-songwriter-guitarist, Terry Emm’s debut album ‘White Butterflies’ (2009), caused a stir when it was released in 2009. The album found admirers all over the world. Maverick Country magazine described the album as ‘Stunning… faultless… the best singer songwriter debut in a long while’, in a 5 star review, whilst Mojo praised it as an ‘Outstanding debut… pastoral, romantic and lit musically by summer rays…no routine singer- songwriter offering but some-thing totally engaging in melody and lyric’. Uncut described Terry’s song-writing as ‘remarkable’ for a teenager and the album was championed by many radio stations including BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 2 DJ’s Tom Robinson and Bob Harris who Terry has recorded live sessions and interviews for. Emm’s long awaited second album ‘Petals Fallen Off The Sun’ (2012) saw Terry again work with producer Richard Durrant as part of Brighton based collective LongMan Records who have been responsible for albums by the likes of; The Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain, Stephen J Kalinich, Jack Cryer and the last album by busker legend, Don Partridge. Whilst maintaining the English singer-songwriter sensibilities and intricate finger picked guitars of ‘White Butterflies’ other moments of ‘Petals’ became an angsty stark and rocky affair. Two years later, new collaborations with Michael Clarke (Andy Burrows, Clarkesville) and Calina De La Mare (Sophia, Tindersticks) brought the lushly produced ‘Starlight’, perhaps Emm’s most accomplished and well written album to date. However, after a run of poorly attended gigs, some discrepancies with his label and agent and ‘Starlight’ failing to sell, Emm announced a hiatus from music due to mental health issues. He spent some time in South America then returned to his home town of Leighton Buzzard in England where he has been seen scuttling around his garden and sitting in local cafes. He recently released a book ‘The Reincarnation Of Giordano Bruno?’ (2016) which explores the idea that he may be an incarnation of the sixteenth century Italian philosopher Giordano Bruno, who was burnt at the stake for heresy. The Fortean Times described it as ‘curiously intriguing’.
