Kathleen Haskard Music

Sinner/songwriter/expatriate Kathleen Haskard is a 4th generation native Californian based in London and spends her down time in a tipi in a canyon on the Pacific coast in the Santa Monica Mountains above Ventura County Line. She is a culturally aware musician who passionately believes in the healing power of music, people power and that the personal is most definitely political. Kathleen's third album, Where The Land Meets The Sky, is the second collaboration with artist/producer Chuck Prophet. This is the sound of a woman rediscovering her identity; her Latina roots, having spent half her life in London. Kat is the expat who has found her way home. Where The Land Meets The Sky is a return to her roots, back to her home turf, L.A. soil, the Pacific sand, the ocean the mountains and the land. This album has a unique east L.A. vibe to it; an alt folkrock sound; a cinematic quality that jumps out at you. Recorded in North Hollywood, mastered in Echo Park and featuring the likes of Greg Leisz, Tom Freund (Ben Harper), Aidan Hawken, Dan Navarro (Lowen & Navarro), Julie Christensen (Leonard Cohen), Derek Brown (Eels), Don Teschner (Rod Stewart), Lorenzo Martinez (Los Texmaniacs) and of course Chuck himself. Kat`s songs are based on an arc, a learning curve of discovery, partings, passion, love lost and found, beginnings and endings. Kat is BIG on endings. This record has a raw streak running through it; a brutal honesty. In I’ll Be Your Fool she channels Sly Stone & Neil Young and offers herself as the naive open yin partner. Untangle This Thing is a playful / sassy take on a relationship unravelling. In Drama in the Dark cities are metaphors for past relationships, loss and uncertainty. Her family tree includes Mexican folk hero Jesus Garcia, whose story and selfless death she reveals and eulogises in the traditional Sonoran corrido Maquina 501. Please Delete Me is the ultimate break-up song.
