About Valence

Valence is an up and coming instrumental band from New York that exists to push the boundaries of rock and roll and bring the highest level of energy possible in doing so. Fusing metal, progressive rock, and jam, Valence creates a unique sound that is intelligent and energetic, yet still accessible. Their focus is on expressiveness: their music can be at times aggressive or intense, at other times contemplative and introspective. Their compositions traverse different styles while their live show leaves audiences in awe. Laser Baron, which was released on June 10th, 2014 is Valence’s latest EP and tells the story of a scientist, Dr. Mervin Taylor, who builds a laser so powerful it rips a hole through space and time, transporting him to a future where his technology is a tool of oppression. The band tracked the EP at Carriage House Studios in Stamford, CT and it was mixed and mastered by Mikhail Pivovarov. The story of Laser Baron was written by guitarist Geoffrey Schaefer and Illustrator, Brian Allen from Flyland Designs created the album artwork. As a follow up to their debut album, Sleepwalker, Valence really ups the ante both musically and sonically with this three-song suite. Starting with their initial effort, Sleepwalker in 2012, people have consistently remarked on Valence’s eclectic style. Sea of Tranquility summarized this, saying the band doesn’t “go all out progressive metal all the time, instead they also inject some atmospheric prog and tasty jazz-fusion into their sound which makes for a well rounded listening experience” and Alternative Control said "As someone who rarely listens to instrumental music and almost always dislikes prog, Valence won me over.” Valence has been touring the Northeast area, making stops as far south as Philadelphia, PA at the Legendary Dobbs; as far North as Burlington, VT at Nectar’s and Burton Headquarters, and of course their hometown Port Chester, NY at Garcia’s at The Capitol Theatre, where they’ve played shows with Consider the Source, Clutch, and The Sword. As for the immediate future, the band is currently working on a new album. So make sure to check out the band that is "rapidly developing into one of the most intelligent and compelling heavy progressive bands out there."
