About Mike Doughty
Genres:
Alternative, Folk, Indie, Singer, Songwriter
Band Members:
Doughty is touring with the largest band he's ever toured with: a cello/bass player drums, another guitar player, an organ player, and a backing vocalist--six people on stage. The show consists of basically live remixing. Using hand gestures, Doughty improvises changes in what the musicians in the band are doing--stopping, starting, getting louder or quieter, changing their parts, repeating their parts. The songs are Soul Coughing songs and Doughty solo songs, but none are ever performed the same way twice., It's a kind of simplified version of something Doughty saw John Zorn doing with avant-garde jazz in the 1990s, but adapted to be more along the lines of a dance music or hip-hop producer mixing tracks--bringing in the drums, dropping them out, juggling the musicians like samples.

Mike’s touring band was solid. I finally got him to sign my copy of his book “Book Of Drugs”

Fantastic show and great venue. Doughty still has it! The crowd was fantastic and a bunch of nice and enthusiastic fans. Not too many cell phones and minimal background chatter. Wheatus was fantastic!!!! My first introduction to this multi-faceted and very talented band. (I have a crush on the guitarist now).

Great show! Mike is a true performer. Lots of improv and banter on stage. Wheatus did a great job backing him up. 10/10 would go again tonight if I could.

This was only the second time I’ve seen M. Doughty, and the other was a living room show, so the ambiance was of course quite different. I loved Mike’s direction of the band during each song, like full-size mixing in real-time. Great energy, solid performances, just the right amount of banter throughout the show, good sense of humor and presence. Good stuff!
It was awesome. Scrap and the cello were a nice touch. Throughly enjoyed see Mike stripped down both in music and setting!
