About The Getup

True heavyweights in the Hammond Funk genre, The Getup are fast establishing a reputation for irresistible grooves, infectious melodies and energetic performances that have been shaking dance floors since 2004.

With fans including Craig Charles (Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show, BBC Radio 6), Snowboy (DJ & Percussionist) and a wealth of club and festival goers across the UK and Europe. The Getup sold out of their debut release, Getup & Groove (2007), within months. They then released the follow-up album Life @ Cafe Eric (2008). The band expanded adding a sweltering horn section and some hard Funk vocals, resulting in the bands second album, Straight From The Hob (2014). This gained much critical acclaim along with the four vinyl 7” singles released from this period.
Live dates in major venues have included the Jazz Cafe (Camden), the legendary 100 Club (Oxford Street), The Pizza Express Jazz Club (London), The Hippodrome (London), The Hideaway (London), The Band On The Wall (Manchester), The Bussey Building (Peckham), Mostly Jazz Festival (Birmingham), Hook & Sling Festival (London) St Paul Soul Jazz Festival (France) and the much missed The Yardbird (Birmingham).
The group’s latest studio excursions have produced, as you have come to expect, a Heavy Hammond Organ and Horn Fest. The first single from this album will be released September 2017 on Canadian label, Funky Pops.

The Getup’s unique sound can be attributed not only to their influences Booker T, Charles Earland, Eddie Russ and many of those rare Funk 45’s from the 60s and 70s but also to the list of groups it’s members have worked with. These include James Taylor Quartet, The Blockheads, Beverley Knight, The Mocambos, Speedometer, Sir Joe Quarterman, Gizelle Smith, Ruben Wilson, Push, Rhoda Dakar, Paolo Negri and Gene Drayton Unit. Add to this, the band’s dedication to an authentic, raw funk sound, favouring a REAL Hammond Organ, analogue recording equipment, sweltering vocals and hard horn arrangements, The Getup have found a sound that’ll have you screaming for more.
