About The Mavericks

The Mavericks
The Mavericks, the eclectic rock and country group known for crisscrossing musical boundaries with abandon, has gone through three distinct phases since it was founded in Miami in 1989. An initial period of heady success marked by big hits and critical acclaim in the ‘90s. A long hiatus starting 2003 when the musicians each went their own way. And finally, a triumphant reunion in 2012 which held long enough for them to recently celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary.
Now, The Mavericks have ushered in the fourth phase of their evolution with the #1 Billboard debut of their first-ever, all Spanish album, En Español, released on the band’s own Mono Mundo label. Although all 12 tracks are in Spanish, as the title suggests, the collection represents a diversity of musical styles and cultural traditions, from tender boleros to brassy mariachi to reimagined Afro-Cuban classics. Seven of the tunes are familiar gems drawn from the vast Latin American songbook, while five are originals written or co-written by Malo.
Like the band’s entire body of music, this one album cannot be boxed into a single category. The songs are as diverse as Latin America itself, and as cohesive as the ideal of the American melting pot. To season this rich musical paella, The Mavericks add their signature country/rock/Tex-Mex flavors and a refreshing spontaneity to the mix. En Español flips the band’s usual fusion formula, which adds a striking assortment of genres – salsa, ska, norteño, mariachi, and much more – to its sturdy rock/country base. Now, the foundation is solidly Latin with streaks of irreverent rock and twangy guitars running through it, all branded with the unmistakable Mavericks style.

The Mavericks and Friends rocked the house last night at the Parker in Fort Lauderdale! Feeling the absence of Raul’s magical, irreplaceable voice and presence…but there to honor and celebrate his life and legacy, nonetheless. His endlessly talented band brothers didn’t disappoint, and James Otto and Emily West, as guest performers, put in super, solid performances… gradually throughout the set, the energy in the room built to a crescendo and level we all expected and needed. That can’t have been easy…yet they made it look that way. Raul is no longer with us here on earth, but his joyful spirit is eternal, and lives on in all who loved him. Thank you, Mavericks and Friends, for a very special and happy evening. Yes, you’ll always be “Raul’s band”, but what great honor, and he’d be so proud! Well done!!! ❤️🎉🎸

The Evening with the Mavericks was better than fabulous!! I'm a New fan just really introduced to the group in the past two months by my guyfriend. After we ordered the tickets he gave to me a USB with music from his four The Mavericks albums. For weeks, I listened and became so excited to see the group in concert.
The Knoxville Bijou concert had NO disappointments, as the talent of the instrumentalists and singers was wonderful. I was able to sing and boop along in my seat, intensely engulfed in the whole concert. They love what they do and it shows. Who can beat their beat!

It was an absolutely beautiful tribute (Night 1 of 2) to the incomparable Raul Malo, a founding member of The Mavericks and one of the greatest singers of all time. For those who are unaware, El Maestro is currently in hospital due to a very aggressive form of cancer. While his commanding presence on stage was sorely missed, the musicians and singers who paid tribute were nothing short of phenomenal. At the same time, it was a very difficult show to watch. More than a few tears were shed by me, those in the audience, and some of the performers. Heart wrenching.
