About The Sight Below
The Sight Below is an alias of Rafael Anton Irisarri, an American composer, multi-instrumentalist, curator, producer and interdisciplinary artist. While critically acclaimed for his contributions to the post-minimalist, drone and ambient music scenes, Irisarri strives towards a sound that exists between “an undifferentiated welter of classical, electronica, pop & techno.” (Pitchfork, USA) The Sight Below’s live performances are centered on bowed electric guitar textures, deep pulsing bass tones, effect pedals/units and electronic percussion. His use of ostinato phrases taps into minimalist ideals, whilst his use of reverb captures an emotive, cinematic quality. Irisarri travels frequently to perform live worldwide. Highlights include concerts at Barcelona’s Sónar Festival, Montreal’s MUTEK, and Krakow’s Unsound Festival. Irisarri has also performed at multidisciplinary arts events, including Milan’s prestigious MITO SettembreMusica and Israel Festival in Jerusalem. Ghostly International has released his recorded output since 2008. Back home in Seattle, Irisarri curates and produces Substrata Festival: an advanced sound and interdisciplinary art event started in 2011 which focus on varying perspectives of scale though the use of sound, composition and visuals. "A beautifully bleak cloud of sound" - PITCHFORK (USA)
