About Koruscant Weekend

Koruscant Weekend are looking to bring a retro sound to modern ears. Formed with a little help from Craigslist a couple of years ago, the group began when guitarist Crim Nguyen met up with now ex-guitarist Ryan. With bassist Josh Hotlosz in tow, Ryan had decided to leave the band, making the then 3-piece in need of a some musical assistance. Craigslist played a huge part in creating the rest of the group as drummer Nathan Klimenko and vocalist/keyboardist Justin Scord came on board via their post. Almost passing on the chance to take Justin into the band, the group had a gut feeling to keep him...and it was a wise decision that they did as he has become a solid staple in Koruscant Weekend. A self-described group of nerds, this band certainly doesn't sound like it! All awkwardness aside the group blends influences such as The Cars, The Strokes, Two Door Cinema Club and Interpol, and has a knack for writing what they call “Dancy Nerd-Pop,” or “Altronica Pop-Rock.” Each song tends to tell a story within the lyrics, much like a concept album. Their sophomore EP, Wives Tales (2012), was a collection of short stories, and their upcoming EP due out later this year is described as “one big coherent story,” with open ended lyrics laced with double meanings. Drawing musical inspiration from specific movie images and sceneries, notable tracks such as “Last Moon,” sound like it was made for a horror film. The upcoming EP draws from a deadly combination from the show Nite Rider and the movie Blade Runner as well as a striking 80s Summer feel that is laced with Miami Vice meets your feel good Summertime jams. When writing the perfect Koruscant Weekend song, the band is a collaborative effort. With everyone bringing something to the table, the piece circulates throughout the band until the perfect song is created. This truly creates the voice of the Koruscant Weekend. Playing alongside bands such as Scissors for Lefty, My American Heart and the Finish Ticket, as well as a showcase for Warner Brothers Records, Koruscant Weekend have been quite a motivated group in the past year. Things are going to heat up even more as their third EP will be released in 2013 to the ears of eager fans and critics alike. Make sure you are one of them! we eat a lot of mexican food
