About Monika Kruse
Monika Kruse's talent and dedication has made her one of the world's most highly-respected DJs and producers. In 2015 her Terminal M label celebrated its 15th anniversary with a string of sold-out parties including a massive show at the Amsterdam Dance Event. It continued its fantastic run with numerous Beatport top 10 tracks from Monika, ANNA and Methodi Hristov among others. Monika's DJ appearances spanned the globe, including a South American tour and gigs throughout Europe, UK, USA and Canada. Among the highlights were Destino Ibiza Opening and joining Carl Cox for Music Is Revolution @ Space Ibiza.
Closest to Monika's heart were her No Historical Backspin benefits at Berghain in March and Watergate in October. Each saw a host of A-list DJs and dance music fans join the party to raise funds for No Historical Backspin, the charity Monika founded in 2000. Over the years it has raised more than 100,000 Euros to help people who suffer from racism, homophobia, anti-Semitism and anti-immigrant attacks. The Berghain night raised over 20,000 Euros for Amadeu Antonio Stiftung, an organisation which aids victims of discrimination and violence. October's Refugees Welcome raised money for people fleeing violence and persecution.
Elsewhere, Monika ignited massive festivals with her crisp techno. Her Tomorrowland set in the Netherlands grabbed a huge audience, plus more than 1.5 million views on YouTube. She also rocked Time Warp Germany, Dockyard Festival Netherlands, Marvellous Island France, Social Festival UK , Sonus Festival Croatia, Burning Man Nevada, Solar Weekend Netherlands, Weekend Beach Festival Malaga and Dancevalley Netherlands, to name a few.
In 2016 she plays a host of major events including Time Warp and Love Family Park in Germany, Ultra Miami and WMC USA, Output NY, Dockyard Festival and 18hrs Festival Netherlands, Marvellous Island France, and Kappa aka Movement Festival Italy, among others.
Classically trained in piano, Monika's love of music is broad and deep. She grew up buying records, accumulating a music collection that grew to span funk, soul, hip hop, and house music. When the revolutionary rhythms coming out of Chicago and Detroit captured her imagination it led her to throw parties in illegal venues including World War II bunkers, trams and empty houses.
Electronic music culture has evolved rapidly since those early days but Monika's talent and passion is constant. “My ethos is ‘sweat with a smile,’” she says. “I give love to my audience and they give it back. My aim is to help people forget what is going on in their life and get lost in my music.”
Her charity work, DJing and production, all express Monika’s faith in the transforming power of music. “It was my first love,” she says. “Music was my best friend. It never let me down. In good times music was there and in bad times music was there.”
