About Dequma
All of us were a part for different bands and we met each other through various gigs and concerts that were happening in the local metal scene. Although, each of us followed different bands like Cynic, Behemoth, The Faceless, Mayhem, Sikth and Dying Fetus, we found delight in knowing that the band, “Death” had influenced us the most as musicians and each of us wanted to carry forth Chuck Schuldiner’s legacy. Chuck, the father of death metal was one of the few artists who never sub categorised metal but instead believed in a single powerful genre called ‘Metal.’ Following that line of thought we decided to combine of various genres of music to create a sound that was not just unique but also expressed various emotions. This led to us, Inder (Guitars), Abhishek (Drums), Shiby (Bass) and Mohak (Vocals) to form Dequma on the 17th august 2011. A scene where promoters are few, sponsors are non-existent for gigs and metal bands play shows almost for free, we found it extremely challenging for us to find a place to jam and compose, that’s when our guitarist Inder met Anand Ramakrishna (guitarist of pipers), who not only was a very sound musician but had also given up everything for music, mentored us and provided us a place to jam and also invested towards Dequma’s future. His selfless efforts, was a driving force for our self confidence, which propelled us to a win a lot of shows and compose music at a whole new level. Dequma would like to thank him for all the affection he provided us unconditionally Luckily for us we’ve had a few, from composing the 1st track (God Spoken Hallucination) and discovering our sound, to winning against commercial bands as an amateur. Gigs at IFIM, Blue Waves, Harry’s and CiTech brought out the best in us which led to MTV recognising us and they still celebrate our anniversary every year. Which we think is really cool! Due to several issues within the band, and several line up changes, the band was inactive and was on the verge of disbanding, but then 2 new members Vinod and Pradeep resurrected Dequma. This led us to re-ignite the spark and carry forth our aspirations. Now Dequma has a new direction and a strengthened sense of togetherness. With Inder as the lead guitarist, Abishek on the Drums, Pradeep being the bassist, while Vinod and Mohak handle the vocal department of the band, the band looks at this as its strongest and final line up. Bangalore being the metal capital, witnessed bands like Myndsnare who pioneered and revolutionised the metal scene in our country by displaying the potential of this city. Since then we have seen a constant growth in the metal culture here. Venues like Garage Jam, provide a stage for budding bands and musicians who are now considering to pursue music as a career. Dequma is happy to see that people are carrying this movement forward and we cannot wait to get back on stage and play along with the new talents in the country. We feel metal is a religion and is growing steadily in our country, we know it will take time but it’s worth the wait. New material for our upcoming album and a music video is on schedule. While Dequma is ready to start touring the country. Sending It Since 2011.
