About Dark Funeral

Dark Funeral
A JOURNEY THROUGH DARKNESS
Formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1993 by guitarist Lord Ahriman and Blackmoon (RIP), Dark Funeral has spent more than three decades evolving from the Swedish black metal underground into one of the country's most internationally established extreme metal acts — without ever compromising the darkness and identity upon which the band was built.
Following their legendary self-financed debut EP in 1994, the band quickly built a reputation for relentless songwriting, uncompromising musicianship and devastating live performances. Throughout their career, Dark Funeral has released a string of acclaimed albums including The Secrets of the Black Arts, Vobiscum Satanas, Diabolis Interium, Attera Totus Sanctus, Angelus Exuro Pro Eternus, Where Shadows Forever Reign and We Are The Apocalypse.
On stage, Dark Funeral has built an equally formidable reputation. The band has performed in more than 55 countries, headlined countless tours, appeared at many of the world's biggest metal festivals and shared stages and festival bills with legendary and internationally renowned artists including Black Sabbath, Slayer, Ozzy Osbourne, KISS, Judas Priest, System of a Down, Linkin Park, Type O Negative, Alice in Chains, Megadeth, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth and many more. While firmly rooted in black metal, more than three decades of international touring have taken Dark Funeral far beyond the traditional boundaries of the genre and established the band as a commanding presence on major metal stages worldwide.
Dark Funeral's achievements have also been recognized by the music industry. Diabolis Interium earned the band a nomination for Sweden's prestigious P3 Guld Award, while Where Shadows Forever Reign later saw Dark Funeral take home the P3 Guld Award for Rock/Metal, as well as Germany's Metal Hammer Award for Metal Anthem. In 2018, founding guitarist and principal songwriter Lord Ahriman received SKAP's Metal Award, recognizing his work as a composer and his contribution to Swedish metal.
Released in 2022, We Are The Apocalypse became Dark Funeral's highest-charting studio album to date, reaching #6 in Germany, #13 in Finland, #28 in Switzerland, #29 in Austria and #31 in Sweden, alongside further chart positions worldwide. The album marked another milestone in the band's evolution and further expanded Dark Funeral's international reach.
In August 2026, Dark Funeral released A Beast To Praise (Live at Fållan, Stockholm) through Century Media Records / Sony Music. Capturing the band at full force across a career-spanning set, the album documents the intensity and precision that have defined Dark Funeral on stage for more than three decades. BLABBERMOUTH.NET described the band as a “devastating live unit,” while international live coverage continues to highlight the atmosphere, power and commanding presence of their shows.
October 2026 will see Dark Funeral bring the We Are The Apocalypse touring cycle to its conclusion on the massive IN LEAGUE WITH SATAN European arena tour alongside Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir.
As one chapter closes, another is already taking shape.
Immediately following the tour, Dark Funeral will enter Fascination Street Studios to record their highly anticipated eighth studio album. With songwriting and pre-production already completed, the album is scheduled for release in 2027 through Century Media Records / Sony Music, opening the next chapter in Dark Funeral's continuing evolution.
More than three decades after emerging from Stockholm's underground, Dark Funeral stands as a defining force in black metal whose legacy and international reach extend far beyond the boundaries of the genre — relentless, uncompromising and continually moving forward.
THE NEXT CHAPTER BEGINS.

These guys put on an awesome show. I was not very familiar with them up till now but they gained a new fan, I even bought one of their bad a*s shirts. I loved their outfits and their style, and after 30 years as a band it's nice to see them helping keep metal and heavy music alive. 🤘🤘

An incridible experience, truly spiritual. Not just a show, but a ritual. Thank you for not giving up on Brazil, despite all the problems. Hope you come Back soon 🤘🏻
