About The Happy Problem

Described by Time Out NY as “a happy go lucky Hole,” The Happy Problem have been busting genres and moving fans since 2008. Their songs are frequently featured in film and television, where they connect with millions of listeners across the country and help tell the story for hit series like Sleepy Hollow, Keeping up with the Kardashians, and, inexplicably, a slew of reality shows about pregnant teens. Exuberantly angsty frontwoman Samantha Shaber, daughter of late screenwriter David Shaber (The Warriors), is the band's songwriter, guitarist, and producer. She founded The Happy Problem after logging over 200,000 miles touring as a solo artist, and has since also worked with diverse musical projects, from Brazilian rock-reggae band The Good People of Planet Earth, to Brooklyn dance-rock group The Bashful, and New Jersey hip-hop trio The Org. On The Happy Problem's latest album, Birth, recorded in Los Angeles by Eve 6 guitarist/engineer Jon Siebels, Shaber brings her eclectic musical experiences to bear; from the reggae-tinged first single "Quit the War," to the upbeat, 80s-inspired "All I Want," to funk-rock anthem "The Disco Song of Love," and a Beatles-esque classical arrangement for oboe and cello on the confessional ballad "Relapse." A consummate indie artist, Shaber managed to shoot 3 videos in 2 days in 1 location for the new album, each to be released as a single over the next few months. The Happy Problem are also adding live shows to the calendar, excited to be a part of LA's newly-reborn indie club scene. Exuberantly angsty frontwoman Sam Shaber's penetrating voice sings of youth, age, love & death on The Happy Problem's self-produced 3rd album, Birth.
