About Plaster

There are at least two projects called Plaster:

1) It is in a small and dark studio at the bottom of an obsolete Montreal cellar that the group PLASTER was born in 2001. Formed by Alex McMahon at the keyboard (Daniel Bélanger, Lhasa, Ariane Moffatt) and Jean-Philippe Goncalves at the drums (Dumas, Martin Léon, Afrodizz) the two former Music School of Drummondville students wanted to create electronic music using standard jazz instruments. A year later, following an encounter with bassist François Plante (Afrodizz), the duet quickly widened its horizons.

PLASTER aims for a true sensory explosion of beat and ambiance. Samplers, multi-effects and of course real instruments are tortured to offer ultimate stimuli. Inspired by the music of Amon Tobin, Herbalizer, JazzaNova, Cinématic Orchestra and Medeski Martin & Wood the trio’s biggest strength is the energy captivating audiences to emerge themselves in a new universe of mystical groove.

True to itself, PLASTER’s first album was eagerly expected by their fans and underground media. Released in November 2005, this album has been corealised by Cristobal Tapia (One Ton, Jorane) and reached number 1 on electro sales chart at Archambault retail stores across Province of Quebec (2000 units sold since release and steady scans). FIRST AID KIT is very impressive and strong by its jazz sound intensity, boisterous rhythms that move with drum’n’bass beats. It is a real cranky, eccentric universe that suggests great film scenes.

2) Plaster is Danijel Balaban from Pula, Croatia. See http://www.discogs.com/artist/Plaster (2).
