About Alexa Weber Morales
I'm an Oakland, California singer-songwriter. Since 2004 I've done 11 studio recordings for my own & other projects. In 2010, I sang on the Grammy-nominated latin jazz album Bien! Bien! In 2011, I made a fan-funded album, and in 2012 sang and wrote lyrics for Pacific Mambo Orchestra's debut album. Welcome! I Wanna Work For You is Alexa's third full-length album, and the first to be completely fan-funded. These 10 original tunes, arranged by bassist Sam Bevan and played by the slamming rhythm section of Bevan, pianist Jonathan Alford, drummer Colin Douglas, and percussionist Carlos Caro, are gritty, triumphant and soulful. Trombonist Mara Fox, trumpeter Steffan Kuehn and Cuban singer Felix Samuel are special guests on tracks guaranteed to move dancers, lovers and workers. Alexa is a charismatic stage performer whose venues include Yoshi's, Santana Row, Jazz at Pearl's, and festivals and shows in Seattle, Los Angeles, Austin, Las Vegas and Boston. She has opened for Bobby McFerrin, Lenny Williams (Tower of Power) and Average White Band. Her lead singing and lyric writing on Wayne Wallace's 2007 date The Reckless Search for Beauty received wide acclaim (Listen to Alexa on Use Me and Afro Blue). Alexa’s 2004 debut, Jazzmérica, was produced by five-time Grammy nominee Wallace and boasts an all-star band including John Santos, Frank Martin (Stevie Wonder), Ricardo Peixoto (Claudia Villela), Edgardo Cambón, and many others. Her second date, Vagabundeo (2007, Patois Records), again included a crack team, among them vocalist Kenny Washington, featured on the a cappella rendition of Calling You. Produced by Wallace and distributed worldwide via KOCH, the album received top-20 jazz radio play. Her third recording, funded via Kickstarter, is I Wanna Work For You. Despite tight economic times and no marketing budget, this album has slowly built a buzz, winning Latin Jazz Corner's Outer Edges Album of the Year award and garnering radio play by request in the US and Colombia. http://www.alexajazz.com: "You'll remember me, and how I made us last."
