About The Ragamuffins

The Ragamuffins are a cavalcade of musical buccaneers renowned for their infectious grooves, chiming guitars, lush harmonies and catchy melodies. Their frenetic pop style takes in elements from all over the place and wraps them up in soaring melodies, towering drum beats, thudding basslines and witty lyrics.

The band released a first full record "Irony Curtain" on Liverpool label 7L Recordings followed by two subsequent EP releases, Telling Tales and The Benefits Of A Downhill Paper Round, which are now available as one convenient album length release. A brand new album, "Over On The Shipping Forecast" is due at the start of 2016!

The Ragamuffins have gratefully received support and airplay across the BBC network, from BBC Radio 2's Janice Long, BBC 6 Music's Tom Robinson and Chris Hawkins, Billy Butler and Dave Monks on BBC Radio Merseyside, Liam Bradford, Michelle Hussy, Andy Crane and Natalie Eve-Williams on BBC Manchester as well as John Barnes (not that one), Sean McGinty, John Gilmore, Glen Hunt and more on BBC Radio Lancashire. John Kennedy has played them on the old XFM and regional stations Radio City, Salford City Radio and Manchester Radio have weighed in with support too.

There's also a wealth of live videos out there that the band have shot for That's Manchester, MUTV, Bay TV, Liverpool Live TV, Culture City TV, The Redmen TV and they've been played numerous times at Liverpool FC's Anfield Football Stadium by legendary announcer George Sephton. You might have heard "Taped Off The Radio" on ITV1 on "This Morning" or caught it advertising Budvar beer in the Manchester Evening News.

"The Ragamuffins are clearly a storming live band. Playing and singing as tight and sharp as this comes only from plentiful rehearsal and long months of gigging." - Tom Robinson, Fresh On The Net

“Catchy, upbeat and brings a proper smile to the face” – Chris Hawkins, BBC 6 Music

"solid songs capable of putting smiles on faces across the nation" - The Anfield Wrap Podcasts

"exactly what British indie pop needs right now; charm, originality, but most of all, damn fine song writing" – Preston University Press

"I witnessed The Ragamuffins tearing up the place with some pounding Northern Soul-style, Dexy's inspired tunes. Original numbers, like the possibly inaccurate "It Never Rains In Mossley Hill" were played loud and raw against a background of pugilistic brass that punched metaphorical holes right through the gorgeously decorated walls of the Elevator." - Threshold Festival, Liverpool:

"A word too about the support band The Ragamuffins, led by an Elvis Costello-like singer and with some great lyrics and engaging hook lines. Definitely a band to look out for." - Lancashire Telegraph

“With relentless enthusiasm on their side, The Ragamuffins soon drag your feet to the dance floor with (The Telling Tales EP's) Northern Soul styled title track and, duly, even a bishop would be compelled to leave the pulpit to get on down with the congregation!" - Bluesbunny Independent Music Reviews

“There are times when you wonder if melody has been forgotten in popular music but not tonight. A musician said to me recently that it was really hard to write a happy song. Well, The Ragamuffins have them by the barrow load” - Bluesbunny Independent Music Reviews Live Review
