About Picture Book
From being hand picked by Coca Cola to perform at the Olympics with the likes of Mark Ronson, Katy B and Dizzee Rascal and collaborating with a Grammy nominated singer and two of the hottest producers in House Music, Picture Book have had a pretty remarkable 2012,. Brothers Dario Darnell and Lorne Ashley, born in New York City and raised in Manchester, inherited a love of song writing and performing from their father August Darnell (a.k.a Kid Creole from the legendary Kid Creole & The Coconuts). Their first EP, At Last (released Jan 2012), was a collaboration with Grammy nominated vocalist Greta Svabo Bech (vocalist on Deadmau5’s 'Raise Your Weapon'). Lead single Sunshine, which was produced by Hugo Leclercq, received an unprecedented response all around with specialist plays on Radio 1, XFM, MoS and Kiss as well as spawning a top 10 hype machine hit and featuring on iTunes ‘New and Noteworthy’. The band’s unique show and ‘aLive’ concept, which sees them remix and rework songs on the fly, caught the eye of Coca Cola and they spent the summer re-interpreting Mark Ronson and Katy B’s track Anywhere in The World up and down the country for the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Events, culminating at Hyde Park where they performed to 80,000 people and shared the stage with the likes of The Wanted, Dizzee Rascal and Katy B. The band’s sophomore EP, Songs About Aimee (released Oct 2012) tells a story of the rise and fall of a relationship with singles In My Head and Why Are We Wasting Our Time wrapping it in deeply infectious melodies and catchy choruses. The latter of which had major support at Radio 1. The EP was written and produced by Picture Book and mixed by house legend, Tony Senghore (Miike Snow, Swedish House Mafia) giving it a crisp finish. Not your average year, not your average band. Picture Book are currently writing new material and will be back with a fresh new sound early in 2013. Our new EP, Songs About Aimee, is out!
