About Mariam Sawires

Egyptian, born in Australia into a worldly, nomadic family of musicians artists originating in desert sands to urban landscapes worldwide. Mariam's youth was inspired by the sweet lyrical high-pitched melodies of traditional Arabic songs, the rhythms created from the clay Darbuka of her father Tarek Sawires. Bringing her flavour of Arabic/Northern African infused Jazz/ NuSoul to Japan, Germany, Denmark, Egypt, Uganda, France, Colombia, USA and her hometown of Sydney, Australia, Mariam has composed songs since age 8 and since then collaborated on projects involving Yoko Ono, the creative director of UNICEF, M-Phazes, D-CUP, Stimulus, and more as well as living and performing extensively in festivals and venues around the globe such as 9 months in Japan and Colombia, then in Uganda, France, Germany, Denmark, Egypt, Uganda, USA and Australia.
