About The Jons
There are at least Two bands called the Jons.
The Jons (MD)
Mutant rock from the Moon. Garagey RAD Mayland band.
The Jons (TX)
The elusive beginnings of The Jons began in Nogales, AZ in 1996 when a group of friends formed a band called MLTB (More Luck Than Buck). They began steady performances in both the U.S and Mexico opening for national and international bands such as Tijuana No and Todos tus Muertos as well as punk bands like Moral Crux and Scared of Chaka. When all the members of the band had relocated to Tucson, AZ in the summer of 2000, it was decided that the band take some time off due to college and other personal reasons. It was during this time that the beginnings of the bands full-length album were to be constructed and readied to be recorded. When the band reconvened in the Summer of 2001, half of the album had been recorded at Waterworks Recording Studio with the help of Jim Waters, who had engineered and produced records by Sonic Youth, The Little Rabbits, and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, among others. It was at this time that MLTB decided a new name was in order due to the change in scenery, and after a late-night drinking session, MLTB became The Jons(highly recommended by their Trumpet player Jon). The Jons quickly found a steady gig in November of 2001 at the San Francisco Bar and Grill, the only place in Tucson that would take a chance on a young and aspiring band. The Jons found the bar to be a place where they could refine their performing skills and experiment with new sounds with different audiences. The Jons began getting offers to play at other venues around Tucson, and after playing the 2002 Fall Crawl a great buzz had circulated around Tucson about the unique sound and musical line-up of the band. The Jons completed their debut album, Wine at the Hilltop, in the fall of 2002 and kept busy playing at many of the popular bars and venues around Tucson. After a successful west coast tour, The Jons began to attract bigger venues and audiences enamored by their blazing horn section and ability to rock in both English and Spanish at any given moment. With a complete band of 6 members and an arsenal of original music, The Jons have formed a cohesion that has allowed incredible accomplishments. They have played with the likes of The Dismemberment Plan, The Reputation, Oh My God and international acts such as Babasonicos, Resorte, Aleks Syntek, Alejandra Guzman, and Enanitos Verdes. The Jons are currently in the process of promoting their second album that will be released May 12, 2006.
