A fantastic evening listening to great music and engaging stories about the songs. Each song was better than the previous one, and she ended the show with '455 Rocket' and a solo encore of 'Turn Off The News (And Build A Garden)'. The only downer was that 'Green Side Of The Grass' will not be released yet, so I guess that I’ll just have to see her again since it's a wonderful song that speaks to the heart, like most of her music!

Excellent show. Kathy is well suited to MC this gig. The highlight for me was Rambling Jack Elliott! His lyric phrasing, amazing... those vocal cords still stretching, sliding and nailing the pitch... and what he can do with a guitar, really cool. All the artists were tight, authentic and appreciative of their support by Diablo Arts Foundation and the beautiful Lesher Theater.

What a wonderful night! Kathy Mattea was fantastic. She played a nice mix of favorites, new songs and a few cover songs. She and her bandmates (Fred and Eric) played together beautifully. It was an intimate setting and just an all-around wonderful way to spend the evening. My kids grew up listening to Kathy Mattea at home and in the car and it brought back many happy memories. We were happy to be able to see her again after many years.

About Kathy Mattea

Hailed by The Washington Post as “one of Nashville’s finest song interpreters,” Kathy Mattea has enjoyed much success and acclaim during her 35-year career in Country, Bluegrass and Folk music, including 2 Grammy wins, 4 CMA Awards, 4 #1 country singles, and five gold albums (plus a platinum Greatest Hits collection). Her latest album is “Pretty Bird", produced by her old friend, roots music wizard Tim O’Brien. The wide-ranging collection of songs chronicles a period of rededication to singing, digging back in with a vocal coach and emerging with a poignant and eclectic CD. In addition to creating and recording music and performing live on tour, Kathy is increasingly involved with public broadcasting, consulting and contributing on screen in Ken Burns’ 2019 documentary for PBS “Country Music”, and recently replacing founder Larry Groce as the host of the long-running NPR show “Mountain Stage”.
