Haferflocken Swingers

[DE] Die Shows der „Haferflocken Swingers” kommen dem Besuch einer finnischen Sauna auf zuviel Adrenalin gleich. Oder einer 50´s Cocktailbar, in der man die Drinks nur vom Namen kennt. Diese Band schüttelt und rührt was das Zeug hält! Vom New Orleans Jazz bis zum Rock ’n’ Roll a la Louis Prima, gemixt mit einem Schuss Big Band Swing und einem Tropfen Blues: Sobald man auf den Geschmack kommt, ist der Rausch unvermeidbar! Mal kommt die Band daher wie eine mit Schweiß geölte Dampfwalze, mal wie die Jukebox eines Alchemisten. Auf der Bühne herrscht das organisierte Chaos. Die sechs unterschiedlichsten Charaktere aus Frankreich, Deutschland, Kanada, Lettland und Belgien unter einen Hut zu bringen, ist eine Meisterleistung für sich. Was sie alle verbindet, ist die Bereitschaft ihre Leidenschaft kompromisslos und mit überbordender Energie auf der Bühne auszuleben. Ihre Musik brodelt, kracht, überwältigt und macht süchtig. This underground swing band based in Berlin has gained the reputation of being where nobody expect them juggling constantly between many genre going from a swing Rock’n’Roll in the style of Louis Prima to blues, Calypso and brass band music through many other weedy musical quotes. From the beginning, the founders of the band (Talis Mortalis and Jimmy Mohan) developed a very authentic spirit always close to the roots of jazz. They started playing with traditional tunes from New Orleans with a Berliner punk/rock feeling and developed a sound of their own. Throughout the years the band expanded its repertoire to Klezmer and Balkan music and started incorporating more jazz elements somewhat in the vain of John Zorn in the sense that fusion has to be made organically. Still the band is down-to-earth and didn’t forget where it was born: in the streets of Berlin.
