About The Banner

Horror Punk was first made popular in the 1980's by a band everybody loves...the Misfits. Taking major influence from their elder horror fiends as well as many other new jersey punk, hardcore and screamo acts, New Jersey natives The Banner, are here to show the world(living and dead) what Dark Hardcore/punk is all about. Founded in 1999, Joey Southside and the boys set out to play music that was dark, real, and not to mention brutal.

In 2001 the band released "Posthumous" a title that becomes painfully ironic for a short time in the next few years. The record dealt with youth, straight edge and of course, demons. Since the first release, the band has matured significantly. The horror theme is still incredibly domninant while the straight edge concepts have diminished with age (none of the members are straight edge anymore); along with certain songs that the band refuses to play (for obvious reasons). The lyrics have grown darker, the imagery more evil, and the songs more intense. However, the live shows only got better with each record, offering us more songs to sing along to. The band's second release "Your Murder Mixtape" gave us new tunes such as "Zombie Onslaught" and "Die Fighting"; popular openers and closers respectively.

Released on Ferret Records, "Each Breath Haunted" is the most recent release from The Banner. Their most intensity filled record to date, taking obvious influence from bands such as Danzig,Ink&Dagger,Integrity and The Hope Conspiracy. It could easily suit the score of a horror movie; fast paced hardcore songs that get your heart pumping, along with several eerie interludes.

Since their first release, the band has undergone several line-up changes, the original incarnation of the Banner consisted Joey Southside,Garrett Defalco,Kevin Manion (Mothernight),Paul Scout (The OI Scouts,Monument). The bassist position was a revolving door, never holding onto one for too long.

In August of 2006, The Banner announced that they were to be laid to rest. After years of being a band, the harsh touring schedule began to take it's toll on the some of the members and they felt it was time to end it all. However after several cryptic blog entries posted on the band's myspace page, Joey Southside announced that it was not yet time to let the Banner die. The Banner has resurrected with a superstar line up of JSS, other founding member Garret Defalco on guitar, Justin, formerly of the Judas Factor(revelation records) on guitar, long time friend Jake (As good As Dead) on bass, and the most recent addition on drums, Pollution.

Who knew rising from the dead packed such a powerful punch? The Banner has exploded from the grave playing shows wherever they can, embarking on several US tours and even announcing a new record in the works; "I.W.I.W.D." At this rate, it looks as if the Banner may never die, and that thought can only put a smile on any fan's face.
