The Owsley Brothers

Hailing from the Gulf Coast of Florida, The Owsley Brothers are garage-blues from the dark side. A complex, genre-bending puzzle that is immediately listenable. It began as the bedroom recording project of multi instrumentalist, J.E. Reynolds. Armed with a cheap guitar, half a drum kit and an 8-track recorder, Reynolds crafted critically acclaimed EP, Pure Lust. The unique blend of lo-fi, scuzz gut bucket blues immediately attracted much attention and glowing reviews. The songs on this EP showcase a dark punk blues underbelly: pounding drums, soulful vocals, reverb drenched guitars and undeniably catchy hooks. Each track draws the listener in, transporting them to a place where the past and present collide. Expanding to a power trio, a full length album was recorded entitled, Cobalt. It seemed to solidify The Owsley Brothers’ sound: the earthy grit of garage rock coupled with the hanky jolt of the hill country blues, crowned with Reynolds’ high and mighty vocal twang. With their latest album, TOB, the band is now a quintet complete with keyboards, providing a landscape of psychedelic noises to their blown out, oscillating, fuzz stomping sound.
