About Clawfoot slumber
Portland power-trio, Clawfoot Slumber combines ambience with courageous psychedelic-rock themes, landing them somewhere between the ethereal and concrete. Experimenting with both driving anthems and gentle ballads the three-piece invokes a near cinematic experience akin to a score from a David Lynch film. Culminating in a presentation as dynamic as the range between Portishead's "Roseland NYC Live" and "Third", each Clawfoot Slumber performance is provocative and highly memorable.
The band has been described as “somber-psyche” and “all around tasty” with Alex Callenberger on guitar, Erin LaCerra on synth & piano bass, and drums. This innovative and minimalistic instrumentation provides a sound that is crystal clear, while possessing an intentional, Rodin-like patina.
Lyrically, Callenberger’s vocal lead illustrates assorted moral allegories with unassuming honesty, similar to that of Nick Drake. LaCerra’s vocal counter-part remains ever close-by, delivering careful swells and breathtaking harmonies with slightly-singed punk poignancy.
Clawfoot's 2015 album, "Open Wide to the Demons Who Crave a Word from the Ghost of Your Heart" was a milestone release for the band. The title itself is the first line of a poem written by Callenberger and LaCerra as they listened to the album in its entirety for the first time. The latest album, "The Stars Within You Beckon to be Carried Forth from the Dark", set to be released in spring 2017, carries a similarly lengthy title, serving as the second line in the poem.
Some musical testimony: "An innovative show of psych/folk/noir, hailing from everywhere and nowhere at once. "
“Musical intelligence and ability this esteemed is a rare gem, unique and afforded with many intricacies. Never afraid to be frenzied or subdued, violent or pastoral, confessional or confusing. Sharp like a blade and fuzzy like a peach.”
"It's like dead people ballroom dancing"
