Nevi'im

Constituting the crème de la crème of the Sri Lankan metal scene; Nevi’im is a super group founded in the year 2010. Nevi’im set off on their musical journey as an Avant-garde/Experimental Metal band, featuring Arjun Dhas (Tantrum, Sword Of The Spirit) on Vocals & Guitar, Vije Dhas (Stigmata, Whirlwind, Hi-Octane) on Bass, and Shehan Peiris (LOA, Legion) on Drums. In 2011, Shehan parted ways with the band to pursue his higher education in music and was replaced by Sithija Dilshan (Nemesis, Unholy Sermon). Tony Jayathilake (Mass Damnation, Hollow) came onboard as an additional guitarist completing the live line up. Nevi’im’s music is a seamless incorporation of cross-genre elements, making categorizing their music a difficult task. “Over the years our music has been evolving and our writing style and approach to music has been changing and continues to change. We try to step beyond the restraints of genre and explore various styles and aspects of music.” – Arjun Dhas (interview with the Sunday Leader) Composer and songwriter Arjun Dhas cites bands such as Rudra, Motherjane, Death, Darkology, Nevermore, Voyager, Lamb of God, and Outworld as having influenced the music of Nevi’im over the years. “They are comfortable expressing themselves in any genre that the context demands and they are trying to get to a place where they can express themselves without having to pay too much attention to genre and other musical conventions.” – Heshan Perera (Sunday Observer) The lyrical themes of their music are centered on neo-apocalyptic visions, inner struggles, altered states of consciousness, and conscious evolution. In January 2013, Nevi’im released their debut single ‘Walk On’, which was well received by the underground metal community, and was nominated for Best Rock Song at the VIMA Music Awards 2013. The release of their limited edition EP, titled ‘Death of an Avatar’ featuring Walk On as a bonus track, followed in March 2014. “Death of an Avatar is about a transition from one way of perceiving the world to another. It reflects the journey of an individual breaking free from beliefs and ideologies, and waking up to the awareness of a dynamic world that is interacting with us.
