Vieux Farka Touré

The show was brilliant. The artist is insanely talented. He created a perfect blend of western and african guitaring and rhythms. He started with a mellow tempo and graduated to very high tempo fun ones getting everyone on their feet.

5 Stars!!! Incredible show. Jam packed. Vieux brought it like none of his other shows. Stage presence, dressed to the 9’s, endless composed energy, getting deep into the groove in deep Mali tradition, standing tall like one of the greats like BB King, I can’t wait for the next one!

Vieux Farka Toure and his band were incredible, one of my favorite shows ever. Can’t wait to see him again one day.

Two simply amazing musicians from Mali (Vieux Farka Touré and Bassakou Kouyate) with their respectively amazing accompanists (all were wonderful, Kouyate's wife, Amy Sacko, almost stole the show)! I learned yet again to silence my mind in order to fully appreciate the experience of being in their presence. The sound at Town Hall could perhaps be better, but I have no way of knowing whether the space itself has limitations, the amplification system and/or its operation could be improved, or whether my placement was at fault (that seems likely, I was far back). None of that really mattered…see my second point.

Kings Place Hall 1 is a small tidy venue. Vieux Farka Touré sounded fantastic in the excellent acoustics. It would have possibly worked better in a hall with no seats so we could dance throughout. We did get permission to get up and dance at the end though, which was great. Vieux Farka Touré's music is so laid back and cool. He is an excellent performer joined by a really accomplished bass player and percussionist. We were left wanting so much more as the gig was only 80 minutes long. Please come back soon and play a longer set!

Will Van Horn played first, and was fantastic, at one point covering Mulatu Astatke on pedal steel guitar, which was a joyful treat. Vieux Farka Toure and his band were simply amazing and so much fun! They played and danced and interacted with the crowd, and everyone was happy. Such genius = the apple didn't fall far from the tree in Vieux and Ali's case. The band even hung out to say hello in person after the show. Such brilliant talent and a totally class act! A great experience was had by all in our party.

Probably one of if not THE most amazing guitar players I have seen in person in my lifetime. The unfortunate thing about the show was the crowd- highly intoxicated and not paying attention to the performers. It seems to be an ongoing issue at shows in Taos. So disrespectful to the musicians.

The concert was fantastic! Vieux is so talented, he plays so nonchalantly while his fingers are flying!

What a great night! We camped at Meeniyan recreational reserve and the concert was at the town hall. The earlier Northcote Social Club gig was 18+ only - bummer, cause the kids couldn’t come. But everyone’s welcome at Meeniyan!! And what a lovely weekend we had. Local Sudanese singer Ajak Kwai opened as support act - intimate and powerful. As for Vieux Farka Toure, those modal Malian riffs are still pulsing in my head. They had the whole crowd dancing by the end. Our 9 year old loved it so much - we went right up the front. And cause he was just a kid and the gig went late, Boureima Farka Toure must’ve noticed him waiting with his poster in hand for an autograph at the end and gently waved him forward, before the waiting adults. So very kind!! That is how you inspire a love of diverse music in a generation to come. Thank you Vieux Farka Toure!

An intimate show where I doubt very few of the audience understood the language, but certainly could vibe with the music. Local opening artist Alex Siegel was invited to jam with the band for the last part of the show, which was fun and gracious.

So good! Such an amazing big sound out of a three-piece band. Vieux was such a showman and it was one of the best Broadside experiences I've had yet. I really, really, REALLY hope Vieux comes back and makes it a regular stop on his future North American tours.

Transcendental. Vieux’s guitar playing lives up to his legend. The bass and percussion were exceptional as well. Vieux is personable with the audience but doesn’t go on with banter; instead he and his band focus on transporting the audience to another continent and another plane.

Despite the sound issues—you couldn't really hear the guitar or vocals very well at least near the stage for far too long—Vieux Farka Touré really had me with a sing along in . . . Bambara? Phenomenal drummer, great interaction between the members of the band, lots of smiles on stage and in the crowd. The band got people dancing from the first song and it never stopped. Really fun show and looking forward to the new album with Khruangbin dedicated to his father, Ali Farka Touré.

Vieux is such a great guy. He is Mali’s ambassador for children. He is also known as the Hendrix of the Sahara. Go see him if it is at all possible. Such an amazing singer and guitarist. Great show!

This was one Special Show ! Calum Ingram Electric Cellist singer songwriter opening the show - then Vieux Farka Toure performing incredible Licks on Guitar and Vocals . Vieux then Had Calum up to Guest on a couple of Songs - total Amazing Improvisational magic achieved ! Then for Encore - Vieux invites Calum up again and Wowed the Crowd !! Suburb Evening -Wow !!! They were Magic 👏👏👏

Enjoyable concert, with distinct sections, and with the more funky last parts as the highlight. Somewhat missing a female choir or another contrasting "instrument".
